It wasn't easy, but we tried. Today, with no natural resources at all (we even have to buy our water), we have:
- Transformed from a third world swamp to a first world metropolis in one generation.
-Become one of the richest countries in the world, with a GDP per capita higher than that of the US.
- Been ranked #1 in the world by the ease of doing business.
- Become one of the most livable cities in the world.
- Become one of the least corrupt nations in the world.
- Built one of the best bilingual policies in the world, with English as the primary working language, and ensured that everyone is well-versed in at least two languages—English and/or Chinese/Malay/Indian.
- Become a multi-racial country living in harmony with one another.
- Converted sewage water into drinkable water (NEWater).
- And achieved many more milestones.
In the next decade, I'm sure we will become much, much better. Today, I just want to take a moment to say ...
Happy 59th birthday, Singapore. ❤️ and ...
