We often get quizzed, “Who is your target audience?”
For a long time we struggled with an answer – because we couldn’t boil it down to a specific demographic. It also made us wonder if we were not doing this right?
So we tried to work out an answer. Young? Singaporeans? But we have readers in the older gen, and almost half are overseas.
Four years later, we discovered the answer. It was always right there from the start. In creating .zine, we weren’t having anyone else in mind. We were creating for ourselves.
So when the work resonates with one more person, it feels like an extra bonus.
That also frees us from seeing the work as a product for a “market”. There was no market we were chasing. The market was ourselves.
So, if someone asks again, we will flash a knowing smile, and say, “Us!” Then, we will politely direct them to these beautiful reader photos, and have them decide, “Who is this for?”
