How to put your parents on the cover of a magazine? Create your own magazine. That’s the surest way to call the shot. First picture here shows Meantime Magazine's editor Xueqiang Pang's 74-year-old parents, who are Issue 5’s cover stars.
When he discovered the wedding photo in an old family album, he was struck by his father’s Beatles’ hair and spiffy moustache, and his mum’s blowout perm. The look was so quintessential in the olden days that it could be anyone’s parents. The wedding photo was taken in 1980 – 45 years ago!
When asked to use it for the cover, his dad’s reaction was, “Would people start recognising me on the street?”.
His reply: “Sorry dad, this is not Vogue. We are indie, underground, and unknown.” His dad was convinced. All smiles now.
