We had one of the most fun and entertaining sushi omakase meal at this lovely sushi restaurant that ensures you get your fill of quality sushi before leaving! Plus it is located in the heart of Shinjuku (opposite Times Square, Takashimaya) with a view of the city!

Our dinner course of 15 sushis that comes with a beautiful bento box appetizer, sashimi salad, tempura, soup and dessert costs 16,000 yen/pax (~S$140, US$110). For lunch, the same course is 13,000 yen/pax (~S$115, US$89)

If you’ve been to Hong Kong, you’ll know Shunde cuisine holds a special place in the hearts of locals there. More than just another regional style, it’s often seen as the pinnacle of Cantonese cooking. So when we heard that Xin Cuisine was unveiling a seasonal menu (available 2 – 31 July) inspired by Shunde’s rich culinary heritage, we had to check it out!

Made a trip to Sado island yesterday. We drove our car onto the ferry and took the 2.5 hour ferry ride to Sado. We visited the gold mine museum which is a world heritage site. Had some local Sado Wagyu beef and took a ride on the tub boat at Taraibun Tub Boat. Sado island is slightly larger than Singapore. Lots of natural beauty and rice fields. Quiet little island to visit. Anyone been?

Oh wow, I had the tarekatsudon which is the local specialty in Niigata! It’s thin slices of breaded pork that is coated with a delicious soy based sauce! So good! We also ordered the normal tonkatsu which is also good but it’s the tarekatsudon that you have to try! Hope someone in Singapore will start selling it! Or is it already available? I guess it is similar to the Pai Gu Wang but with a different sauce.

The original stall is Tonkatsu Taro, but we had our meal at Tonkatsumasachan which is a modern chain. Anyone tried the one at Taro? Is it better?

Konnichiwa from Echigo Yuzawa!

This is our first time visiting during the summer. Our previous trips were all during ski season, back when the kids were younger—so they have many fond memories of this place. We’re squeezing in one last family trip before both of them start working. How time flies!

It’s been a nostalgic experience for all of us. In the past, we’d take the Shinkansen, alight at Echigo-Yuzawa Station, and stay at the Yuzawa Grand Hotel, which is conveniently right next to the station. It’s lovely to see that the old ryokan has undergone some renovations while still retaining its charming, old-school vibe. We drove this time round so that we can explore more of the place!

Visited the sake museum (located at the station) and did a round of sake tasting last night before dinner at
Yakiniku Sakaeya where we had lots of delicious grilled meats! We ate till we were so stuffed and were pleasantly surprised that it only cost under $40 per person!

Today, we took the ropeway up to Yuzawa Kogen and are now enjoying the quiet mountain air with a cup of café latte!

Has anyone else been here before?

China's most popular Korean BBQ chain is now at Bugis+. Combining the best of Korean and Chinese BBQ styles, Xita Lao Tai Tai serves up flavourful meat cuts in their special clay stove grill, and has a pretty good selection of banchan to too.

Our top picks are the Beef Skirt, Marbled Beef Rib Fingers and Cold Chicken Salad!

When word got out that Quentin’s might be closing by the end of the year, we knew we had to gather the kakis for one last makan session. Quentin’s is probably the last truly Eurasian restaurant in Singapore, so it’s a real shame they weren’t able to renew their lease at the Eurasian Association. Honestly, I don’t quite understand why—they seem to be the only place in town offering such an authentic Eurasian dining experience!

That said, all of us agreed: the food was excellent. If you’ve never tried Eurasian cuisine, now’s the time. Make a reservation before it’s too late!

Read our review: https://ieatishootipost.sg/Quentins

So, how much do you know about Eurasian food?
