Sierra Leoneans!
Na five years dis ooo!
I wrote this exact thing two years ago, when they announced the general election results and declared Maada Bio as president. I said:
“I hope una make una decisions wisely.”
Now I’m back, asking the same question — but this time, with receipts.
Let’s look around us. Is this what we voted for?
The economy? Prices are flying like birds, the Leone is falling like mango, and salaries can’t keep up.
Electricity? Still a privilege, not a right. Blackout na we kompin.
Jobs? Our youths are roaming like tourists in their own land — no employment, just promises.
Health sector? You sick, you’re on your own. Government hospitals are like empty shells.
Education? Free Quality Education, but where is the quality? Where are the trained teachers, the learning materials?
Corruption? The Anti-Corruption Commission makes noise, but the big fish always swim free. Most times, No offense.
Telecom: All the telecommunication Companies are doing what they want and no one to put them on their toes to do the right job.
Food Security: Food becomes one of the most expensive things in the country. Why should it be when our agenda is on food??
Sierra Leoneans, una gladi?
Na dis we bin vote for?
Na dis we bin hope for?
Because if this is the “New Direction” we were promised, then we have every right to ask — direction to where exactly?
It’s not too late to wake up. Accountability doesn’t end at the ballot box. Let’s hold leaders responsible — not just for what they say, but for what they do after we vote.
But like I said, there is still time and I believe things can change for the best even though most times they claim that the changes we are making today are for the future generation but it is not the future generation casting their votes, are they? It is not the future generation that goes to bed hungry? It is not the future generation that lurks the streets of Freetown unemployed and desperate. Let’s be honest to ourselves for once and ensure that leaders actually do what we voted them for. But in the end of the day na "Ow for do ooo, me pikin, na so we cam meet ya".
