*AMIGOS DE SIERRA LEONA MAKES HISTORY IN MATIDINI VILLAGE WITH OPENING OF NEW SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL*.
In a historic move set to transform the educational landscape of the Western Area Rural District, the Amigos de Sierra Leona organization has officially launched a new senior secondary school for the Matidini community. The landmark project is situated at the Escario Pascal School compound, which already boasts a nursery, primary, and junior secondary school.
The new senior secondary school is part of a comprehensive educational complex that features an equipped library backed with computers, a tailoring school, a football pitch with sports material for school children, and a solar system with CCTV cameras installed around the entire compound.
In a statement, Mrs. Aminata Sesay, Head Teacher of the school and Director of Amigos Sierra Leona, described the senior secondary school project as a felt need for the community. She explained that the community was in dire need of the school, as many children previously had to walk far distances to nearby communities to access secondary education.
According to Mrs. Sesay, reports indicate that the primary school operates as a public school, while the secondary school is a private institution with a very minimal fee paid by students.
In an interview with this medium, Madam Susan Cole, Founder and Trustee of the organisation, disclosed that the project is sponsored by TEDISA through WARA WARA Schools. She further revealed that the senior school is a four-classroom building project and that the entire school has about twelve teachers, with only two being government-pinned staff out of the twelve.
Madam Cole lamented the challenges facing the school, particularly the inadequate support from the Government regarding subvention and pinned status for teachers. She called for greater governmental support to ensure the sustainability and quality of education at the institution.
Escario Pascal School is located in Matidini, Western Area, and is equipped with numerous facilities, including a school feeding programme for pupils, a library, a standard playing ground, and a solar system with CCTV cameras covering the entire compound.
The school is supported by the AGIGO organisation, which has membership around the world, especially in Spain. The launch of the senior secondary school marks a significant milestone in the organisation's efforts to provide accessible and quality education to underserved communities in Sierra Leone.
The event was attended by community stakeholders, parents, and well-wishers who expressed their gratitude to Amigos de Sierra Leona and its partners for their unwavering commitment to the development of Matidini and its children.
