Going at planned, the loan from the US DFC to the Nant Energy project marks Sierra Leone’s first major independent power initiative under the leadership of President Bio . Valued at over $400 million, this project is set to produce more than 100MW of electricity. In the coming months, the installation of the first Siemens turbine will begin.
With and after the installation, the country especially the city of Freetown will be free from blackout.

The Chief's Diary: Deepening Sierra Leone-UK Cooperation Through Trade and Investment

In the week of October 13th, 2025, I will lead a high-powered delegation including government, private sector, and members of the creative industry to attend a series of trade and investment events in London, UK. Today, I met with the British High Commissioner H.E Josephine Gauld and her team to make final plans for the mission. Over three major events, we will meet the private sector, diaspora, investors, and others in the creative sector to highlight areas of growth and opportunity in Sierra Leone. We will have another event at the British International Investment HQ, focused on ways we can ensure the $100 million additional resources committed for investments in Sierra Leone are utilized. In partnership with Vult Inc., Labrum London, and Invest Salone, the Sierra Leone High Commission in the UK will also host a wonderful networking event.

MOYA, 18th August 2025, Freetown

The Economic and Commercial Counseling Center of the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at empowering the youth of Sierra Leone. This significant agreement includes the provision of 500 electric cars, 1,000 bikes, 500 tricycles, and the establishment of a state-of-the-art facility for youth technical training on electric vehicles (EVs).

This initiative is crucial for developing a skilled workforce to support the growing EV industry in Sierra Leone. According to the Chinese representative, this project could be groundbreaking, offering the youth of Sierra Leone new hope and a renewed future.

Minister Ibrahim Sannoh, in his statement, emphasized that this support is expected to foster economic growth and enhance the quality of living standards for the youth in Sierra Leone. He noted that the initiative aligns with the President's "Big 5" game changers focused on youth employment and human capital development.

The signing of this MOU reaffirms the long-standing and dynamic bilateral cooperation between Sierra Leone and China. Minister Sannoh stated, "It is the responsibility of us public officials to encourage responsible investment in Sierra Leone for our growing youth population." He further highlighted that infrastructure and industrial projects must be coupled with human resource development and skills transfer to ensure sustainable progress.
