Happy that Mayor Mike Savage and the City of Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada have proclaimed today, January 15, 2022 as the “Day of Black Loyalist Exodus: 15 Ships to Sierra Leone”.

This Proclamation is a welcome reminder of our shared history - the 1,196 liberated black loyalists who left Nova Scotia on January 15, 1792 landed in Freetown on March 11, 1792.

We are grateful to see the commitment to safeguard our history 230 years on, and promote the significance of Freetown since its establishment as a city of liberation.

Thank you and congratulations to Mayor Savage and people of Halifax!
