Psalm 8 is one of the greatest psalms of King David that shows God’s endowment to man.
Let me just give my little opinion on it.
Psalm 8
“1 O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.”
The gracious and mercy God was magnified and exalted, while citing HIS glory above the Heavens
“2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.”
The psalmist reminds God of how HE made man, from the tenderness of infancy to the cradle of the grave. HE ordained man with strength just because of HIS Enemy and avenger.
Now the question you may ask is does God has enemies?
In my own view I will say yes!
God’s enemies are not flesh and blood meaning human beings but principalities and powers, against rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 6:12
So you see the enemies we see in our day to day activities are not in actuality but spiritually.
Now God has declared them HIS enemies just because of your sake.
3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
God’s architectural gift is unmeasurable, with just command He made everything with amazement, don’t you think HE is worthy to be feared and respected?
4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
The psalmist continue to ardor God’s unflinching support for man, asking Him questions like, what is man that HE is Mindful of him? to a point HE visits the son of man.
5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
The psalmist assertain that God has made man a little Lower than the angels.
Meaning we are unimaginably powerful and mighty. As a man you can achieve everything you set to achieve, you can move mountains, cross oceans and possess everything on earth. However, as a man your potentials are limited to DEATH.
You and I can die at anytime.
That’s our limitation.
6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under his feet:
God made human beings so powerful and gave them dominion over all the works of His hands.
Who can ever do that?
We are dearly loved by God
We are not his slave or his play toys but his very own prided creations.
7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
Remember I say God has given us dominion over all the works of HIS hand, and even the beasts of the field including the sheep and oxen.
8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
Including the birds of the air, and fishes of the sea, and whatsoever that passeth through the paths of the seas.
Meaning we have dominion over creatures that are beneath the sea, now and forevermore. Is that not wonderful?
9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
The psalmist ended by exalting His Name in all the earth.
Well I’ll exalt the Name of The Lord above, below and beneath the earth.
I will admire his faithfulness every passing minute as I lived.
I will magnify His graciousness and excellence all through my days even as I marvel at His wondrous work.
Let Him alone be praised and ardor forevermore.
Amen!
