The public is hereby informed that Alpha Wurie, a Sierra Leonean national formerly residing in Kenema, is wanted in connection with human trafficking and fraudulent travel schemes.

Reports reaching authorities and community leaders indicate that Mr. Wurie has been luring fellow Sierra Leoneans with promises of overseas travel opportunities. Victims, most of whom are desperate youth seeking better futures, are coerced into paying large sums of money for these alleged arrangements.

However, upon payment, victims are instead trafficked across borders into dangerous zones, particularly N’gel and Mali, where they are abandoned and lose all contact with him. Numerous reports claim that once he receives the funds, Mr. Wurie blocks all communication, leaving his victims stranded and vulnerable.

Accident Report – Fire Force Junction, Freetown

In the early hours of today, a red container truck with the label "WORKER'S BLESSING"overturned near the Fire Force junction, close to the burial ground area in Freetown. The vehicle lost balance while navigating the slope and crashed sideways, blocking part of the road.

Eyewitnesses report that the truck may have experienced brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, though the truck sustained significant damage.

Authorities and local bystanders quickly responded to the scene to prevent further traffic obstruction. The police and road safety officers are investigating the cause of the incident.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution when driving around steep or slippery areas, especially during the rainy season.

Public Advisory: Forecast of Heavy Rainfall Over a Three-Day Period Across Sierra Leone

Date: 30th July 2025

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) wishes to inform the public of a forecast of heavy rainfall over the next three days (July 30 – August 2, 2025) as issued by the African Union’s Climate Centre (ACMAD/OCHA), which aligns with projections from the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency (SLMet).

According to the forecast, Sierra Leone, along with other West African countries, is expected to experience deep convective cloud activity resulting in heavy cumulative rainfall ranging between 100mm to 150mm over the 5-day period. This level of precipitation significantly increases the risk of flash floods, landslides, infrastructure damage, and other related hazards, particularly in urban areas with poor drainage systems and communities located in flood-prone zones.

Low-lying coastal communities, hillside settlements, erosion-prone slopes, communities with poor waste management or blocked waterways, and areas recently saturated by previous rainfall are likely to be affected.

In light of the potential risks associated with the upcoming rainfall, the NDMA urges the general public to take the following preventive and safety measures:

☑️ Relocate from High-Risk locations If you live in a floodplain, near riverbanks, or on unstable slopes, consider temporary relocation during the rainfall window.

☑️ Households and communities should clear their gutters and waterways to ease water flow and reduce localized flooding.

☑️ Report Emergencies by calling NDMA’s toll-free line 1199 available on all networks.

This forecast serves as an early warning. NDMA remains in close coordination with the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency and the African Union and will be monitoring the situation and respond swiftly to any emerging incidents.

The NDMA hereby encourage members of the public to stay vigilant and prioritize safety during this critical rainfall period.

*Breaking News: Serious Road Accident in Freetown*

A tragic road accident occurred earlier today in Freetown, leaving a vehicle severely damaged and partially buried in debris. According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened during heavy rainfall, which likely contributed to poor visibility and slippery roads.
