Dear Traditional Leaders,
I extend my sincere appreciation for your tireless efforts in serving the people of Sierra Leone and for your continued leadership in preserving the values, dignity, and welfare of your subjects throughout the chiefdoms.
I write to respectfully draw your attention to an important national concern that urgently requires your intervention for the limited availability of National Identity Card registration centres across Chiefdoms in the country.
Months ago, a Private Member Motion was raised in Parliament by me, requesting the summoning of the Director General of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA). Following this, the Director General appeared before Parliament and assured Members that NCRA would expand registration centres to reach Chiefdom and Sectional levels. This assurance was further reaffirmed by the Honourable Speaker, Hon. Sengepoh Thomas, within the Parliamentary Chambers.
However, as of today, these promises remain unfulfilled.
Instead, registration activities remain centralized at District Headquarters, creating significant barriers for citizens in remote Chiefdoms. With deadlines now announced by NCRA, and reinforced by public notices from the Office of National Security (ONS) and the Inspector General of Police, citizens are being compelled to comply under conditions that are neither accessible nor equitable.
I therefore urge your esteemed Council to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves. Kindly consider convening to collectively present a strong and united case for the immediate establishment of identity card registration centres at the Chiefdom and Sectional levels.
