Nyapui Radio 106.1 FM Kenema has successfully concluded a two-day Strategic Development Planning engagement.

The engagement focused on strengthening financial independency through strategic partnerships.

This initiative brought together key stakeholders, including the Vice President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists Ngevao and the Country Director of SEND-Sierra Leone, Mr Joseph Ayamga to explore ways to navigate the increasingly competitive media landscape.

The engagement proved to be inspiring and motivating for all staff and participants involved.

Kenema in Crisis: Stakeholders Must Act Now to Halt Rising Crime

Kenema, Sierra Leone – With deep sorrow and anger, Nyapui Radio 106.1 FM Kenema note that Allegations reached us Rev. Fr. Augustine Amadu of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Burma 3, Kenema, is brutally killed by armed robbers. This tragic incident is not an isolated case but part of a rising wave of violent crime that is consuming our city.

Kenema is now gripped by fear. Armed robberies, violent assaults, and unchecked criminal activity are eroding the safety of our communities. Citizens are left unprotected, while the absence of decisive action from the police and responsible authorities fuels a sense of abandonment.

It is no longer acceptable for leaders and security agencies to respond only with words of sympathy after lives have been lost. The people of Kenema deserve action, not platitudes. The Sierra Leone Police, Ministry of Internal Affairs Republic of Sierra Leone , and elected representatives must act swiftly and decisively to:
• Increase police patrols in vulnerable communities.
• Launch urgent and transparent investigations into violent crimes.
• Strengthen collaboration with community leaders and youth networks to address crime at the root.
• Restore visible law and order as a sign of government’s commitment to protect its people.

Failure to act decisively will only deepen public distrust in leadership and risk further tragedy.

We call on all stakeholders—government, security institutions, community leaders, and civil society—to unite in reclaiming safety and dignity for Kenema. Every life lost to violence is one too many. The time for action is now.

The team highlighted that as a baby organization, their primary focus at this stage is raising awareness about environmental stewardship.

They emphasize the importance of community involvement, utilizing local radio and community engagement initiatives to spread their message.

They reiterated that environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of individuals but rather a collective effort that requires the participation of the general public.

They have actively visited numerous communities to enhance understanding of climate issues and how residents can manage their environment more effectively.

Furthermore, the team stressed the importance of gender inclusivity in their initiatives, noting that it is essential for men to incorporate women into daily activities related to combating environmental hazards, as women play a crucial role in these efforts.

Through their proactive approach, EPN-SL aims to empower communities and foster a shared commitment to environmental protection, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable future for all.
