🚨 Breaking News 🚨
At least 69 migrants, mostly from Gambia and Senegal, have tragically lost their lives after an overcrowded boat capsized off the coast of Mauritania near Mheijrat. 😢 The vessel, carrying around 160 people, overturned when passengers rushed to one side after spotting coastal lights.

Only 17 survivors have been rescued. Survivors revealed the boat left Gambia over a week ago. Sadly, with search and rescue operations still ongoing, hopes of finding more survivors are fading fast.

Mauritania, with its 700 km Atlantic coastline, has become a dangerous but key transit route for many African migrants risking it all in search of a better life in Europe. 🌍

The Transition Committee today held its exit meeting with the Executive Committee, following a similar engagement with senior management and staff on 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟔 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, to present preliminary findings from its review of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).

The ExCo expressed gratitude to the Committee and welcomed the prospect of reform. They added that they 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐋𝐅𝐀 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞, 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐓𝐂

Staff welcomed the review, stressing the need for capacity-building, better planning, and more transparent systems, while the Committee emphasized that though the findings were preliminary, immediate corrective measures were required to restore accountability and confidence in SLFA’s operations.
