Residents of Kowa Chiefdom Demand Urgent Action on Delayed Mofombo–Njama Road Project
Residents of Kowa Chiefdom have expressed growing dissatisfaction over the slow pace and apparent abandonment of the feeder road construction linking Mofombo to Njama, calling for immediate intervention from authorities, particularly the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA).
The road project, which initially brought hope and excitement to the people, has reportedly lost momentum. Community members say the level of commitment and energy that marked the beginning of the work is no longer visible, leaving the project incomplete and the road in a deteriorating state.
Residents noted that there has been little to no communication regarding the delay, raising concerns about whether the project is still actively being pursued. The current condition of the road, with unfinished sections and poor drainage, is already being affected by early rainfall across Sierra Leone.
“ _We were very hopeful when the construction began. It meant easier movement, better access to markets, and improved livelihoods. But now, the situation is worrying_ ,” a resident explained.
The Mofombo–Njama road is a vital link for farmers, traders, and commuters within the chiefdom. Its completion is expected to significantly boost economic activities and improve access to essential services. However, the ongoing delay threatens to reverse these gains.
With the rainy season gradually setting in, residents fear that continued inaction could result in severe damage, potentially rendering the road impassable. Exposed surfaces and incomplete works could easily be washed away if urgent steps are not taken.
As the implementing body of the project, the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) is being strongly urged to address the issue without further delay. Community leaders and stakeholders are calling for a thorough review of the project, accountability from contractors, and the immediate resumption of work on site.
“ _We are appealing to NaCSA to take swift action. This project is too important to the people of Kowa Chiefdom to be left in this condition_ ,” a local leader emphasized.
Residents remain hopeful that their concerns will be taken seriously and that prompt intervention will ensure the successful completion of the road before the rains cause further destruction.
