Nigerians Demand Justice for Killings and Kidnapping in South Africa

The Nigerian community in South Africa is calling for justice after two Nigerians, Taiwo Raji and Yemi Akinwunmi, were shot dead in front of their shops on April 20, 2025, in Pretoria. The suspect, a South African named Kosina Titanbo, was reportedly angry over a stolen phone and targeted the victims out of racial bias. He has since been released on bail, sparking fears he may flee.

The victims left behind South African wives and children. Their families and the Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) are demanding legal action and government support.

In a separate incident, a Nigerian businessman, Silas Ani, was kidnapped from his home in Johannesburg on April 24. He and others were tortured by their alleged abductor, Xolani Khumalo. While some victims were released, Ani is still missing.

NICASA is working with a Nigerian law firm to seek justice in court and has urged the Nigerian government to intervene.
