If harness responsible, GenAI will unlock an estimated US$61-103 billion of additional economic value in Africa while creating new jobs and boosting digital literacy.

However, without a comprehensive regulatory framework, we risk a rapid escalation of misuse that could compromise fundamental rights, exacerbate political instability, and further weaken already fragile countries.

Spent hours today chatting in fluent Krio with my Sierra Leanean sisters, Mariam Fatima Kabiru Mansaray and Khadija Kamara at the University of Edinburgh Law School Quad Cafe. A luxury I did not have last academic year.

From James "Africanus" Beale Horton (1st African Student at The University of Edinburgh who was from Sierra Leone), the Edinburgh-Sierra Leone community continues to grow—all thanks to Chevening Awards and the Mastercard Foundation.

It's been a fast-paced and rewarding two weeks since I assumed the office of Head of Department of Law at IMATT College - Sierra Leone.

My philosophy has always been that leadership is defined by action. I am thrilled to announce that in this short time, we have successfully launched https://imatt.college, our new, all-in-one digital learning portal. This platform will transform our student experience, centralizing everything from course materials and assignment submissions to timetables and grade reporting.

This is how technology makes our lives simple.
I am particularly proud that this solution was developed and deployed by my own legal tech startup, Wivo Legal Tech 4 Africa. It's a powerful feeling to see my passion for legal innovation directly support the institution I now serve.

This milestone was not a solo effort. Rapid progress requires a shared vision and trust.

My deepest gratitude goes to the entire IMATT College administration for their forward-thinking mindset, and especially to our Proprietor, Amadu Justice Bah, for giving me this platform and for his immediate and unwavering support of this technological leap.

I must also extend a special thanks to the brilliant software developer Alhaji Barrie at Monime for his outstanding and tireless contributions to bringing this platform to life.

This is just the beginning. We are committed to building a modern, efficient, and accessible legal education for the next generation.

History was made! 🇸🇱

I'm still buzzing from the energy at Sierra Leone's inaugural Legal Tech Summit this past Friday, October 10th. It was an honour for my startup, Wivo Legal Tech 4 Africa, to partner with The Lawyers' Society of Sierra Leone and Monime to bring this landmark event to life at the Freetown City Council Auditorium.

The summit marked a pivotal moment, bringing together legal professionals, innovators, and policymakers to chart a new course for the future of law in our country. The core message was clear: technology is not here to replace us, but to augment our work, enhance efficiency, and democratize access to justice.

We were privileged to hear from incredible minds, including: Guest Speaker Professor Burkhard Schafer (University of Edinburgh), who joined virtually to discuss the responsible deployment of AI and the need for robust regulatory frameworks and Keynote Speaker Edgar Kuhimbisa from Uganda, who provided invaluable insights on contextualising legal tech solutions for Africa and the critical importance of investing in people.

I had the pleasure of wearing two hats during the event, moderating the panel on "Policy and Regulatory Framework for Legal Tech" alongside esteemed panellists Alhaji Manika Kamara, Augustine Sorie-Sengbe Marrah, Madam Salwa Campbell, and Edgar Kuhimbisa and representing The Institute for Legal research and Advocacy for Justice (ILRAJ) during the legal tech showcase, where I shared our contributions to the space, including organizing the first-ever AI Tools workshop for legal practitioners in Sierra Leone.

A huge thank you to our speakers, panellists, fellow tech hubs, such as Law Hub and SierraLii, and to every single person who attended and contributed to the vibrant discussions.

This is just the beginning of a transformative journey. Let's continue to collaborate and build a legal ecosystem that is innovative, ethical, and accessible to all.
