The Nigerien president’s reasoning is simple: respect is never given to those who accept humiliation in silence. When powerful countries impose unilateral bans and sanctions, they expect submission. By responding with reciprocity, Niger sends a message that African nations are not subordinate states, but sovereign actors. If Africa remains divided, each country is easy to bully. If Africa responds collectively, the balance of power changes. Respect on the global stage has always followed strength, unity, and self-assertion—not pleading. This is not about hostility; it is about dignity. A world that is used to ignoring Africans will only start listening when Africans show they are willing to defend themselves politically, diplomatically, and symbolically, wherever they are.
