SOMALIA IN CRISIS - Climate Change, Drought, Hunger & Displacement.

Across Somalia, drought is transforming everyday life.

For pastoralist communities who depend on livestock and seasonal rains, the absence of water and pasture is not simply an environmental crisis - it is a threat to an entire way of life.

In this documentary, we travel through drought-affected communities to witness the realities behind the crisis: dry and barren land, animals struggling for water, communities searching for increasingly scarce resources, and families forced to leave their homes in search of survival.

Through firsthand interviews with pastoralists, displaced families, and people living on the front lines of the crisis, this film explores how climate change and prolonged drought are affecting livelihoods, food security, water access and displacement.

These are not just images of a dry land.
They are stories of people trying to survive.

For millions across Somalia, drought is no longer a seasonal hardship-it has become a relentless reality. Years of below-average rainfall, rising temperatures, and the growing impacts of climate change have transformed once-productive landscapes into dry, fragile ecosystems struggling to sustain life.

This image captures more than two wild animals drinking from a shrinking pool of water. It tells the story of an entire environment under pressure. Water sources that once supported wildlife, livestock, and communities are disappearing, forcing both people and animals to travel greater distances in search of the most basic necessity for survival.

The effects of drought reach far beyond the loss of water. Vegetation disappears, livestock weaken, wildlife habitats shrink, and families whose livelihoods depend on natural resources face impossible choices every day. Across many parts of Somalia, pastoral communities continue to endure the devastating consequences of prolonged dry seasons, while humanitarian needs continue to grow.

Climate change is accelerating these challenges, making droughts more frequent and more severe. Protecting water resources, restoring ecosystems, and strengthening community resilience are no longer long-term ambitions-they are urgent priorities that require sustained investment and collective action.

This photograph is a reminder that every drop of water matters. Behind every dry landscape lies a story of resilience, adaptation, and hope for the return of rain.

Behind every drought statistic is a human story.

This image captures the reality faced by many pastoralist families across Somalia, where livestock are not only a source of income but a way of life. As droughts become more frequent and severe, communities continue to show remarkable resilience despite the challenges.

Through photography, we can document these realities, raise awareness, and preserve the stories of those living on the frontlines of climate change.
