INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN CONFLICT .
In the ministry of gender child and social welfare

Sexual violence against children is one of the six grave violations identified and condemned by the United Nations Security Council, forming part of its framework to monitor and respond to abuses in armed conflict.

In contemporary conflicts, sexual violence has become increasingly prevalent, often occurring in environments where the rule of law has collapsed. It is frequently used deliberately as a tactic of war to terrorize communities, force displacement, or assert control over populations.

Both girls and boys are affected, although their experiences are often underreported or misunderstood. In some contexts, harmful practices exploit children systematically, reflecting the breakdown of institutions meant to protect them.

The Launch of the Land Lottery for Residents of Nyinkuach East, Block 21, in the Abyei Area

The Abyei area witnessed the launch of the residential land lottery for residents of Nyinkuach East, Block 21, in the presence of the Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Hon. Kuol Agany, representing the administrative government; the Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Awet Deng Miyen; the Minister of Information, Hon. Yohana Akol Ngor; the Commissioner of Lands, Molana Makuac Ring Makuac; the Mayor of Abyei Municipality, Mr. Ajang Kual; and Sultan Ajak Jieng, Sultan of one of the Bongo chieftaincies (Kuac Community), along with the Nyinkuach neighborhood committee and a number of citizens.

During the event, the lottery results were handed over to the first ten beneficiaries of the initial batch, which aims to distribute 100 residential plots. This is the first time in Abyei’s history that residential land has been allocated through a lottery system, with broad attendance and participation from local residents.

In his remarks, the Minister of Infrastructure noted that Nyinkuach is one of the fortunate neighborhoods, adding that implementing the lottery system will help present the area in an organized and well-planned residential layout. He described it as an important step in the administration’s development and urban planning efforts.

For his part, the Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement affirmed that adopting the lottery system for residential land allocation is one of the top priorities of the Abyei administrative government, as it ensures fairness and transparency in land distribution. He also commended the spirit of cooperation and organization shown by the Bongo clan and praised their efforts in working jointly with the government to make the initiative a success.

The event concluded by emphasizing the importance of this step in supporting urban development and promoting organized residential planning, which will contribute to the area’s growth and improve services for citizens.

The four County Commissioners and the Mayor of Abyei Municipality took the oath of office at the SPLM Secretariat General House today, Saturday, 20 June 2026.

The swearing-in ceremony formalized their appointment as Chairpersons of the SPLM in their respective counties and in Abyei Municipality.

Justice Charles Abyei Jok, the Chief Administrator of the Abyei Special Administrative Area, attended the swearing-in ceremony at the SPLM Secretariat General House in the Abyei Special Administrative Area.

The ceremony was also attended by the SPLM Secretary General in Abyei, David Kiir Zacharia, the Council of Liberation, the SPLM Youth League, and SPLM spokesperson Anyuak Rokdit.
