SPLA-IO Brigadier General Thor Gang Lual has distanced SPLA-IO from an attack that occurred in Wuno on April 26, 2026. The General clarified that those who launched the attack are Nuerwew forces mobilized by Gatkhor Gatluak, SPLA-IG Commissioner of Uror County, together with Jonglei State Governor Riek G*i Kok. The purpose of the attack is to pit the Lou Nuer against the Murle. This is part of the SSPDF’s strategy to promote ethnically driven communal violence and divert citizens’ attention.

The SPLA-IO expressed gratitude to GPAA youth for refusing to be mobilized by the SSPDF, who intend to attack Akobo via the Lekuangole–Akobo route.

Our traditions as Nuer and Dinka teach us something sacred: a person should rest near their family, buried with dignity on their ancestral land. To die far away, abandoned in the wilderness, is not just painful—it is a curse that wounds the living.

But look at what this tribal war has done to us.
Our people are dying far from home. Their bodies are left for dogs and birds. No burial. No dignity. No respect. Yet when it comes to the powerful or high ranking individuals, their bodies are carried back and honored. Are we not all human? Do we not all deserve the same respect in death?
We have forgotten who we are.

My people, it is time to wake up. This path we are on is destroying us—not just in life, but even in death. Coming to Akobo today is not bravery… it is walking into death before your time.

Enough is enough. Let us remember our values. Let us choose life.
