SAD: Boda Boda Accident Leads to Mistaken Burial

Aweil - August 31, 2025: A tragic incident occurred in Lil Wardit when an unidentified man was struck and killed by a boda boda rider.

Following the accident, the man's body was transported to Adhotic of Tikchok Mareng Village, Aweil East County, where a woman mistakenly identified the deceased as her husband and proceeded to bury him.

In an astonishing turn of events, just two days after the burial, the actual husband returned home from working on his farm, revealing the grave error. This shocking revelation has left the community in disbelief.

The community is urging anyone who can identify the man in the attached photo to come forward. If you recognize him, please visit the police station in Aweil town, where the case is currently being handled.

A 9-year-old girl died after slipping into a flooded pit latrine at Panmath in Aweil Town on Tuesday evening.

Eyewitnesses said she was playing with her siblings near the uncovered latrine when she fell in around 4PM. She was taken to the hospital but could not be saved.

Residents are urged to cover pit latrines and watch children closely during the floods. This is the second drowning in the area after a 12-year-old girl died in a pond last year.

The Member of Parliament, Machok Majong Jong, who was pushing for a motion to summon Benjamin Bol Mel in the national parliament, is in Dubai for treatment after meeting VP Mel on Monday a privately.

Sources familiar with the situation said Jong agreed to drop the motion as he was traveling to Dubai for treatment.

It is unclear whether Bol Mel facilitated his travel for treatment or if he had planned to go for treatment before raising the motion.
