🔴 BREAKING NEWS

The African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) will visit Juba from April 23–25, 2026, to assess South Sudan’s transitional political process and progress in implementing the 2018 peace agreement.

According to an official invitation seen by SS24, the AU PSC will hold a high-level meeting with stakeholders on Thursday, April 23, at the Radisson Blu Hotel from 17:10 to 18:30 hrs. The session aims to gather first-hand insights on outstanding transitional tasks ahead of the country’s planned elections.

During the visit, the AU PSC delegation is expected to meet President Salva Kiir, the Vice Presidency, R-ARCSS institutions, UNMISS, IGAD, RJMEC, civil society groups, and other key actors.

CEPO Executive Director Edmund Yakani welcomed the visit but urged the AU PSC to ensure accountability among South Sudan’s leaders. He emphasized that the mission will only have meaningful impact if it enforces genuine implementation of peace agreements, including the release of political detainees, respect for the ceasefire, and inclusive political dialogue.

Yakani warned that continued lack of accountability is slowing the country’s transition and allowing violence to persist over peace and stability.

Three trucks loaded with building materials departed Juba on Saturday evening heading to Twic County in Warrap State, marking the start of construction for the long-awaited Mading Abiel Girls’ School in Turalei.

The project follows a commitment made in early 2025 by ASK Foundation founder Adut Salva Kiir to expand access to education for girls in the area. The foundation says the initiative is aimed at providing a safe and supportive learning environment for young girls in Twic County.

Officials described the shipment as a significant first step toward delivering on that pledge, noting that the school is expected to improve access to education and create new opportunities for girls in the community.

ASK Foundation emphasized that the project reflects its broader mission to use education as a tool for social transformation, adding that the construction of the school represents hope for a more inclusive and empowered future for girls in the region.
