Letter to His Excellency Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit

Subject: HUMBLE APPEAL FOR PRESIDENTIAL PARDON AND RECONCILIATION WITH GENERAL PAUL MALONG AWAN FOR LASTING PEACE
Your Excellency,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and strong leadership as you continue to guide our nation, the Republic of South Sudan.
I write to you with the deepest respect and humility, as a citizen who loves this country and desires to see lasting peace, unity, and reconciliation among our people.
Your Excellency, we are all aware of the sacrifices you have made for the independence and stability of South Sudan. Under your leadership, we have seen efforts toward peace agreements, dialogue, and national healing. It is in this same spirit of forgiveness and nation-building that I make this humble appeal.
I respectfully appeal to Your Excellency to consider granting a Presidential Pardon to General Paul Malong Awan and to embrace peace and reconciliation with him.
General Malong is a son of this nation, a former Chief of Defense Forces, and a leader who has many followers, across the country. His absence from the national peace process has left a gap that affects unity and trust among our communities.
For National Unity, Forgiving and reconciling with Gen. Paul Malong will send a strong message that no South Sudanese is beyond forgiveness. It will bring many citizens back into the fold of national dialogue.
For Peace in Bahr el Ghazal and Beyond the return of Gen. Malong under peace will help reduce tensions, encourage armed groups to lay down arms, and allow development to take place.
For the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement, Your Excellency you have been been the architect of peace.
Welcoming Gen. Malong back will strengthen the implementation of the peace agreement and show the world that South Sudan chooses dialogue over division.
For the Future Generation, our children deserve to grow up in a country where leaders resolve differences through talking, not fighting.
Your Excellency, I understand that the past had pain and disagreements. But history has shown that great leaders forgive for the sake of the nation. Just as you have welcomed others back for peace, we pray that you extend the same hand to Gen. Paul Malong Awan.
I request you to meet with General Paul Malong Awan, listen to each other, and sign a commitment to peace. Let us close the chapter of division and open a new chapter of working together to build schools, hospitals, roads, and jobs for our people.
Your Excellency, the people of South Sudan are tired of conflict. They want to see their leaders united. Your pardon and reconciliation will be remembered as one of the greatest acts of statesmanship in our history.
I remain hopeful that you will consider this appeal with the wisdom and fatherly heart that you are known for.
Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurance of my highest respect and loyalty to the Republic of South Sudan.
