Council Approves US$18 Million Project to Improve Healthcare in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State

The Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Council of Ministers has approved a US$18 million pilot project to improve healthcare services and train health workers in the state.

The decision was made during a Council of Ministers meeting chaired by Governor Charles Madut Akol.

According to the state government, the project will include the training of 66 personnel to help strengthen the healthcare workforce and improve the delivery of essential health services to the people.

The project will be supported by several international partners and donors, including Al Ahly Sporting Club of Egypt, the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah, Qatar Charity Association, and the African Development Bank.

Governor Charles Madut Akol welcomed the project and said partnerships with international organizations are important in addressing the development needs of Northern Bahr el Ghazal, especially in the health and social sectors.

The funds for the project were mobilized following Minister Riiny Riiny Lual’s recent visit to the MENA region, where he engaged his former basketball teammates and other partners to support healthcare development in South Sudan.

The pilot project will be implemented in Aweil, with the aim of strengthening health institutions, improving services, and building a stronger and more skilled workforce in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

Former Aweil Students Chairperson Calls on Graduates to Return and Teach

Former Chairperson of the Aweil Students Association at the University of Bahr el Ghazal, William Chan Akuei, has urged graduates from Juba and other parts of the country to return to Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and contribute to the education of young learners.

William Chan encouraged graduates to share their knowledge with students in their home communities rather than focusing solely on opportunities in Juba.

He said he personally chose to return to Aweil East County after graduating from the College of Economics at the University of Bahr el Ghazal. He went on to teach at Baac Primary and Secondary School, an institution established by Luol Deng, the current President of the South Sudan Basketball Association.

“I would like to encourage some graduates who are not willing to give back their knowledge to the younger generation,” Akuei said.

“I taught at Baac Primary and Secondary School,” he added.

William is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Economics at the University of Juba.

He called on graduates to consider returning home and contributing to the development of the education sector in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

Gymnastics Boy Lual Big Apologizes to Mading Aweil Community After Insulting Aweil People

Gymnastics performer and SSPDF soldier Lual Big has apologized to the Mading Aweil community after he insulted Aweil people in a video that attracted public attention.

Lual Big, who hails from Mading Aweil, made the apology during an interview with South Sudanese content creator Akok Captain.

He said he was disappointed and hurt by what happened to him, adding that he had been going through a difficult time.

“For me, I was so disappointed with my home people because of what happened to me, and it was painful. I have been down,” Lual Big said.

He also appreciated Akok Captain for reaching out to him and said he had tried to find another way to help himself.

“For me, I need to apologize to Mading Aweil Community because nobody is perfect. Mading Aweil is bigger than us, and after that, we follow them,” he said.

Lual Big also asked those who were offended by his remarks to forgive him.

“For those who were not happy with me for the reason I insulted Aweil, please forgive me,” he said.

He further said he had been experiencing bad dreams at night and believed they could be connected to his remarks about Mading Aweil.

“For me, I used to dream badly at night, so I thought maybe these Mading Aweil things are following me because I insulted them,” Lual Big narrated.

Lual Big became widely known after a video circulated on social media showing him being beaten by fellow soldiers, following his earlier remarks against his home community.

🚨BREAKING: Aweil North vs Rumbek North Match Postponed Over Ticket Revenue Dispute

The Barh el Ghazal Counties Tournament (BCT) match between Aweil North and Rumbek North has been postponed until further notice.

BCT President Majok Ayar says the postponement follows a dispute between BCT and WSPT, led by Deng Dut Parek, over the collection of gate-entry fees.

No new date has been announced for the match.
