Traditional Leaders in Bentiu Call for Guaranteed Security for Displaced Returnees
​BENTIU: Community and traditional leaders in Unity State are demanding stronger government commitments to local security before millions of displaced families can safely return home.
​Speaking during a UNMISS-hosted transition and peace workshop in Bentiu, which brought together over 60 local authorities, youth representatives, and women's advocates, Mayom County Paramount Chief Maduot Gatluak emphasized that true peace must precede repatriation.
​"Many of our people remain in exile or in camps and will only return when they perceive real stability and security on the ground. I urge our political leaders to prioritize true harmony over rhetoric."

​Meanwhile, engineering and peacekeeping units from Mongolia and Pakistan are actively working to reinforce the vast earthen d***s surrounding the Bentiu IDP camps to protect over 300,000 residents from early seasonal floodwaters.
