| NO PLACE IS SAFE: BENTIU'S FOOD DISTRIBUTION CAN'T AID BUT A TEMPORARY THIRST-EASE SOLUTION.

Authored by Kulong Buom |30 April, 2026

Agriculture practices remain to be an option rather than a priority in Bentiu. In light of Al Jazeera English news, revealed "80 million Population live in poverty in South Sudan,” only 20% having access to privilege, while 80% are in deprivation.

To add an insights to this study, divide such statistics; it exactly estimated 8 out of 10 live in extreme hunger as manual farms can't satisfy the demand in each state.

In 2024, World Bank Group stipulated, “South Sudan is facing a dire hunger crisis, with roughly 92% of the population living in extreme poverty,” in their Poverty & Equity Assessment; shown the whole population is severely impacted by food insecurity long ago.

Hunger can't wait, required immediate action.

It is more than a thirst, Dr. Manytuil and his cabinet must make a favorable deal to secure Tractors in Juba. Failure to do so, may add a strange burden to already scarce resources, given its geographical location as landlocks in rainy season.

Reviewed on the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 2 of 2030 Agenda; is Food Access, "Zero Hunger to end global hunger, and achieve food security."

For Unity State to align with this objective and eradicate poverty, state policy-makers should think beyond Food Distribution, but to help farmers invest in large-scale firms for a long term sustainability. Tractors Support, Fuel, and Cash to pay their Workers can ease Food deficiencies.

In areas like Norkur, Thoan of Guit, Ngol, Manga, Thow man-gor, Thonyar in Leer, & patit in Koch, which are fertile and un-affected much by flood. Even if they were, with support from professional Agriculturalists, they can guide farmers' crops to grow in wet-land. Bentiu’s farmers have been blocked by insecurity and natural disaster, despite having an eco-environment that can sustain the state.

With such reports, no place is safe as widespread hunger in South Sudan push communites to their limits. Therefore, requires Proactive and Coordinated Action from Agricultural Actors to focus on sustainbility.

Observably, Mayom County’s rice and onion scheme implemented by Welthungerhilfe Project, Funded by World Food Programme provides the opportunity for future Agro-Action across state. A footprint that can be followed in other six counties to ease food insecurity issues.

States Agreement & Eco-Friendly Trade Union

Bentiu, Ruweng, Warrap state, can ease their cattle target and find an immediate solution for all grievances around borders. Instead for them to engage in fury, they must leverage the soil to produce food and flood their states markets.

This initiative could be borrowed as best Practice to safeguard food sufficiency, while avoiding emergency brakes in case of a sudden surge in food imports from either Sudan or Juba. Also, it has advantages prior to planned future agricultural spending to assuage or thirst farming in states like Bentiu, Warrap, and Ruweng.

In these states, according to data, are those with the Worst Food Insecurity. Unlike Aweil, Renk, East, Central, and Western Equatoria. Farmers fear for their lives in Bentiu, Rwueng and Warrap, as a lack of a proper security agreement among sisterly states limited local production.

So far, the crisis of cattle rearers has nothing to do with Agriculture farms in Bentiu, Ruweng or Warrap, as long as both states manage the security leakage to profit from the food trade deals.

Main Farming Scheme states in South Sudan

Existing Agro-scheme areas like Aweil, Western Equatoria, and Renk in Upper Nile State are left with limited options. South Sudan has not yet explored agricultural areas, despite support from JICA, EU, U.S and China to strengthen her food reliant. Still the country survives in the East Africa Common Markets.

In the recent crisis, priorities shifted to political instability, which a little South Sudan breathed on East Africa Community membership. With integration of Valued Added Taxes (VAT), all these impacted South Sudan’s economy lifeline. Although EAC partners like Uganda and Kenya may claim an important victory over South Sudan’s economy due to sealing rules-based free trade pacts of 2000.

In 2024, South Sudan’s GDP dropped from 4.64 billion, representing a loss of nearly 75% of its value, lead to depreciation of South Sudanese currency, which represents less than 25% from crude oil export now. Let alone 90% of government spending in revenue collected.

Conclusively

As a way forward, to leave this fiction with Motto; "Produce Locally, Consume Locally, and Sustainably," Dr. Joseph should prioritize long-term investment in agricultural action over the distribution of limited Food Assistance.

Bentiu’s fertile soil and seasonal rainfall are immense natural assets that, if utilized appropriately, can effectively alleviate this extreme hunger. In this crisis, sooner or later will push the nation toward the brink of bankruptcy.

With civil servant wages becoming more optional than mandatory, none can afford basic food any longer later. Food insecurity is the root of issues, when agriculture is not a top priority, the scarcity fuels crime and causes a sharp decline in overall economic prosperity.

Recommendation

1. Unity state's Gov't can acquire at least 35 tractors, make an equitable distribution of 5 tractors per county to boost local agricultural productivity than manual work.

2. State Ministry of Agriculture shall lead all technical operations and fleet management, with high-level supervision from the Office of the Governor to ensure alignment with state goals.

3. Advertise for a competitive consultancy bid to recruit experts who will train and select four lead agriculturalists from each county to manage and benefit from the project funds.

4. Strengthen the Accountability, establish a robust Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework at the project's launch to track progress, ensure financial transparency, and meet all delivery deadlines.

Breaking News⚠️⛔️: A journalist breaks silence over employment opportunities in GPoC. Mr Boum appeals for a fair and equal chance in the oil company after he was frustrated in 2019 & 2020.

Here is author's full article | 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 27, 2026:

"Age doesn't wait but when exactly will the "Good Samaritan" come to elevate those who have no uncle, nephew, or cousin?

It's nearly 7 years without access to my state company (GPoC). In 2019, I went for an interview after Resumption of Energy in (driving position).

Unfortunately, I was unable to be consider due to unknown, with hope of a second chance to come.

I kept Asking, when, how, and who could help push those who are unknown into the ladder?

At times, I speak to myself, "What is really missing?" Could it be "Qualification" or something else?

The days became so anithetical, I can't help but only to embrace them.

I was told to reach out to former state coordinators Tang Balbal & Makul Machar that time, but things didn't go well.

We were given a hope that "GPoC's recruitment is not yet done." We return home believed that it could be true.

In 2020, we tried for the second attempt; none worked out again.

I tried so hard to reach Presidential Security Advisor Hon. Tut Gatluak,

At least to look for a recommendation from him. Again, I was unable to make it.

The hope was gone.
The dream was fade.
The chance of ladder was nowhere to be seen.

With hope of meeting Zol-Kabir, but it remains a visual dream again.

Days are going. I was like to 'Keep quiet' but,

Pressure doesn't wait.
Human needs are at their peak.

All I left with is to "Keep hope alive" waited for a good samaritan.

Upon the new governor's return.

I just conclude that "if Dr. Manytuil wishes to empower youths who have no uncles in President Kiir's government."

I am eager to serve in any subordinate vacancy.

1. Risk Advisor to HSM GPoC,
2. Liaison Coordinator, or
3. Driver which requires no qualification at (GPoC), gure.
4. Communication/PR Assistant (GPoC).

So, I will try, though giving–up is not an absolute option.

I wish all the appointees in today's presidential decree the best and thrives well in their various new challenges.

A voice that looking for a "Good samaritan"!

IF WE ALL GANG UP AGAINST GBV, WE CAN FIGHT IT OUT FROM OUR CULTURE

Marriages have lost their constitutional value nowadays. They're greatly connected to politics. If not your background is questionable, then your pocket will be.

The fight for Gender InEquality and Right of Girl Child in Our Society remains alarmingly Unresolved.

Cultural norms contradict the will of the female child. In familial ties, parents view a girl
child solely as a resource.
They see her as "a means of income—generational, an asset or cash in the form of a human."
Not as a person with dreams and aspirations
to fulfil in society. That's how parents
place their expectations on girls. If she dies,
the family wealth is lost.
Marriage isn't a business like a suit or a
skirt in a shop but a natural union
linked to emotions, souls, and lasting relationships.

We Witness Many Cases.⁉️

The Pr3valence of the Ģender InÈquality index is beyond. A §ituation that Ńeed a Ɲational Ɗeclaration from GBV partners and the Ministry of Gender, Child & Social ₩elfare.

Cultural norms compromise the rights of females. It is no longer a will of girl anymore. They choose for them. Parents decidě who to live with their daughter.

Female child is seen as a means of connection to familial desire.
But this is wrong; a girl child is no longer an asset, nor should they be seen as a means to wealth or status.

They are human, similar to male child too.
They have the right to choose whom they wish to marry and live with.

This is not marriage, we just don't know the name of it. Or else, it should be “sell instead.” As parent, you simply n̈eed to legalise their marital union chosen by them.
And if she experienced indiscrimination is good to her but if it's mistreatment or any anticipated issue, she can blame none but herself.

The More We Deny her Rights, ⚠️

‼️ We emotionally damage her wellbeing.
➰ ️We destroy her future,
♾️ We are foe of her fundamental right.
〽️ We simply become a source of her trauma
⭕️ We direct her to plan cluttering decision.

Parents Shouldn't Decide⛔️, Instead to Support Their Children in Their Union. ♻️

In marriage, when a girl expresses her desire to enter into a relationship, it reflects her independence. She should be supported, not impeded in her choice or happiness.

As parents, their role is to acknowledge her voice and rights to ensure she feels confident in her decisions.

A lasting marriage is one that she decides upon, as she is the one facing the realities of her choice.

Even though she was raise at home, she still has the right to her life.
We cannot deny her the right to make her own decisions because we gave birth to her, no. it is a parent's responsibility to raise her.

In fact, a blessing from parents is fruitful and enhances a couple's bond, but it does not mean her fundamental rights are unheard.

Let's listen to her voice, take an inclusive decision with her consent & choice too.

| | WHY IS JOURNALISM ABOUT TO LOSE ITS RELEVANCY TO A NATION'S DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTH SUDAN?

By Kulong Buom
Date: 2nd February 2026

In 2025, April 6, following the Nasir incident on 4 march, the Proliferation of Propaganda remains unfixed in South Sudan’s reliable news.
Evidently, in the 'ongoing re–newed Fight' between warring parties, SPLM-IO and SPLM-IG, compromised the Neutrality of news.
Most Digital Media Pages Published rhetorical narratives that amplify hate speech, incite, and misinform the Public Purposely.
However, it is hard to Distinguish 'Factual and Fake News,' as they represent equal degrees based on ethnicity in this aftermath.
Although I have no source to attribute it to, much of this reporting is done by Citizen Journalists, who focus on stories that align with their community interests.
You could seize or not; the absence of credentialed journalists is a barrier to the nation's desire for peace.
This shifts News values and blocks the voice of unheard and victims who struggle for Justice or Support from the Public or Policymakers to act decisively.

Let me explain the odds that compromise the future of journalism in South Sudan separately.

Journalists’ safety concern

In South Sudan, after Political awrestling Grew, professional Journalists quit their jobs due to their personal safety. Despite this, there was a bit of Progress Initiated by the Union of Journalists (UJoSS) and rights groups to preserve the voice and the right of Journalists in the country.
The Presumed Freedom of Expression as stipulated in South Sudan’s Bill of Rights remains on paper.
In fact, the reality in practice dictates the reporting stage, as the environment is not conducive to free coverage. Reports of Harassment, Detention, Kidnapping, and other Unexplained Impunity Against well-trained Journalists continue to be significant factors.

Economic Deterioration Affects Journalism Practice in South Sudan.

The economic situation deters professional journalists from serving in this profession. Let me say, 80% of journalists down-tools their jobs and work in private sectors. In other words, low payments from media agencies do not sustain them.
Few who are still in the institution have compromised the ethics and fundamental principles of serving the public interest for their own good.
Overall, the flow of neutral and impactful news is undermined by the ongoing economic deterioration in the country.

Political Pressure Impacts the Media landscape in the nation.

Consequently, Media Outlets Face Pressure to align with certain political or ethnic narratives. Particularly, in the ongoing conflict between the SPLM-IG and the opposition, SPLM-IO allies have placed media coverage in an unknown future.
Journalists report rhetoric Opinions and Narratives that fit their interest/community’s representation. Besides this, few media like Radio Tamazuj - Diaspora, Sudan Post; humanitarian news agencies like Radio Miraya; and international media outlets that operate anonymously are the ones presenting factual news.
You can't agree, but that's a fact, as registered media agencies demonstrate no role in timely reporting news accurately. The truth is, if they don't comply with or reflect the state’s interest, then they are biassed.

The Impact of Tribal Narratives in South Sudan’s Media

Tribal representation in Media is growing now and is more harmful. It Shifts the Focus, Buried Truth Alive, blocks the Marginalised, and Victims who are in demand for justice and equal rights to amplify their voices.
Furthermore, place South Sudan's Media Landscape in question, as Censorship and Inaccessibility to news “keep journalism careers hostage”.
So far, the life-serving profession is fading away not because of Journalists’ negligence but due to an Environment that does not support them.

The future of journalism lies in state leadership.

The Freedom of Expression and Access to Information Acts 24/32, as stipulated in the Constitution, require full implementation from every institution, Judiciary, Cabinet and Legislation, including the NSS and law enforcement departments like the South Sudan Police Services.
Thus, denying Access to Information and free Coverage isn't wise to Control the spread of Information but causes more harm due to threats from Propaganda.
Journalists can not denied any mouthful news without “Fact-checking” when they’re not granted full Access to Information to Fight Misinformation and Propaganda.

Last but not least, the future of Journalism is unclear; Citizen Journalists become more prevalent in Media. In my own analysis, their function is granted by state government because the space and access to information are not sincerely free to Professional Media Practitioners.
According to the look of things, it comes with a cost from Media Agencies that try their best to elevate the voices of the Voiceless and Push for Reform.

Heglig attack raised an alarm to Kiir's administration to step aside in Sudan affairs.

Kulong Buom
Juba, South Sudan
12th 12, 2025

Having failed to diplomatically downplay our card, the Heglig Oil Field attack was an alert that “showed the strained relations between North and South Sudan” following a drone attack on oil infrastructure. This situation needs Kiir's administration to ratchet up its foreign policy and engage with Sudan amicably to step aside from Sudan’s conflict and focus on its interests.

Last month, on 4th Nov 2025, Sudan’s Undersecretary of Energy Dr. Mohieldien Naiem Mohamed Saied sent a letter to Juba, requesting an “immediate safe shutdown of oil due to a security threat.”

As a seamless bilateral tie is on the raw, in 2024, SAF's powerful leader, Gen. Abdel Fattah, accused Kiir's administration of meddling in its internal affairs, alleging that “individuals fighting alongside Rapid Support Forces are from South Sudan.”

Analytically, the claim that ‘South Sudan is aiding RSF’ by al-Burhan's government adds another layer of complexity, which surrounds South Sudan's oil flow consistently.

Sudan's onslaught, in early Jan 16th 2025, in Wad Madani, Al Jazirah state, an unestimated number of South Sudanese lives were lost, despite South Sudan's pledge to uphold its bilateral relations.

In such chaos, South Sudan's government must maintain its position to engage both parties in achieving a comprehensive peace rather than being dragged into it as a neutral state.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗮𝗻’𝘀 𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸?

South Sudan's oil flow has experienced inconsistencies since April 2023, attributed to the ongoing conflict in Sudan. This disruption is tied to foreign policy issues, as Sudan perceives South Sudan as an ally, despite a lack of concrete evidence supporting this claim.

Moreover, besides Sudan’s share in it, the latest development along the contested borderline, where South Sudan strategically deployed troops to guard the oil facilities, drew Sudan's attention.

SAF leader Abdel Fattah is suspicious of South Sudan's alliance with the RSF camp under Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. The attack on Heglig demonstrates SAF's intent to target the South Sudan People's Defence Forces barracks positioned there.

The strategic deployment of troops by South Sudan to protect the Heglig Oil Field is unwise and unanalyzed, lacking prior diplomatic discussions among the involved parties.

However, it's likely to offer a tangible advantage on the ground, especially in the oil field, but it overlooks the fact that the pipeline runs through Port Sudan, the temporary capital city.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝗱𝗮𝗻

South Sudan's economy is heavily reliant on crude oil production, which exceeds 170,000 barrels per day, as other mining sectors are still untouched.

The country's economic stability is seriously threatened by its shutdown, given its landlocked spot and internal unrest, as over 70% of South Sudan's government revenue is projected to come from oil.

The crude shutdown is not ideal, but the conditions on the ground dictate the results, particularly insecurity. The choice belongs to South Sudan, whether to opt for a total shutdown or to engage in renewed discussions with Sudan to restore oil flow.

Eight years ago, the nation relied on loans as a result of internal instability that ‘disrupted oil production’ in an oil-rich nation. So far, the answer is “Yes, for renewed talk.” This could be another polite strategy than guarding it by deploying troops.

South Sudan should engage the warring parties back at the negotiating table. Otherwise, negotiating with one side will never solve the Sudanese and South Sudanese problems.

𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲

Fulsomely, based on the current situation in Sudan, a lack of conscious and true diplomatic connections is predicted to have a big impact on South Sudan, particularly residents in border areas such as Renk, Bentiu, Aweil, Raja, and Maban, as well as those living near Sudan.

RSF–SAF's fights may escalate to South Sudan's territorial integrity. This is a shared responsibility; South Sudan must pull up its socks and begin discussions for both parties to protect its national interests.

The peace in Sudan is the peace in South Sudan. Hence, they share the burden equally, particularly at the Energy site.

However, because of the continuous changes in the political landscape, there is an unspoken strategy that will one day compel South Sudan to either build its own oil refinery or reroute its oil supply lines.

In conclusion, a final choice must be made on whether South Sudan should meet with these influential generals in order to achieve genuine peace or withdraw until both sides have achieved their own peace.

: Custom Burn Signal to Build a Modern Market

Kulong Buom Chan
December 4th, 2025
Juba, South Sudan

We can not rely solely on a bamboo fence and an iron roof to call it a shop. Iron-sheet structure is highly susceptible to fire. In the last incident, a few shops could have been averted if it was built with brick or more durable materials.

What's the government waiting for? Is there any evidence apart from these two consecutive alarms?

The "Dec 1, 2025, fire incident" placed a profound loss on a nation already facing economic hardship. In Dec 19, 2024, a similar tragedy struck the Konykonyo market.

These markets are not just a vibrant hub but a "Hope Market" for the population who are unable to afford superior goods in other markets like "Juba Town or Suk Libya."

The Konykonyo and Custom markets fire outbreaks have signalled an urgent need for a modern market.

What lessons need to be grasped? Uganda is a bold example.

In Feb 25, 2009, Kampala's Wino Market burned down to the ash. The Ugandan government took responsibility and built a state of the art–market.

This modern facility that was in Kampala city has helped reduce fire outbreaks. However, there's an anonymous medic quote, "Prevention is better than cure."

The Gov't should construct a modern market to minimise high risks. We know it's a great loss not only to you but also to the entire nation, which is directly and indirectly supported by this market.

The truth is;

_We require hasty intervention, not only investigation from our government.

_We need a solution to mitigate further losses because the frequent fire outbreaks threaten our promising economy.

_ We urge our government to build a modern market infrastructure, not iron sheets.

_We appeal to our government to take market's responsibility, not individuals to own it.

I am sorry to say this to a victim of the custom market. "The Gov't should instead invest the money to construct at least one standard one rather than distribute them as a token of compensation."

The frequent fire became a threat to our fragile economic situation. If the government compensates the losses, it only means there is a need for a yearly compensation budget because the root cause is not addressed.

Conclusively—I don't know whether the public saw, but the recent fire outbreak in customs has revealed something strange. The firefighter has not been equipped to promptly respond on time.

Juba is rapidly growing, the Gov't should invest in the standard market and also equipping the fire brigade with safety vehicles, at least to reduce the risks associated with fires and promote a sustainable environment for all citizens.
