Crisis in medical education, as a Fifth year medical student officially quits his childhood dream.
A Fifth year student named Yak Kiir from the University of Bahr El Ghazal, college of Medicine and Health Sciences has officially announced his decision to drop out from school. In his statement, Kiir says endless academic calendar and the suffocating weight of skyrocketing tuition fees prompted his decision.
Kiir cited the lengthy academic calendar has stolen his joy ,drained him mentally and on the verge of depression until this decision becomes sensible for him.
"Nobody will ever understand the pressure you face! I know we don't know each other but I'm so proud of the decision to drop out from UBG.
What does it mean to gain the whole world (or get a degree) but lose your soul? Sometimes our no(s) are more powerful than our yes( s). When what you normally love starts to steal your joy it's important we take a step back and evaluate why." Yak stressed.
What do you think would be the solution for the emotional pain caused by the lengthy academic calendars in South Sudan?
Students have a burning desire to complete their studies on time and go back to chase life since having a degree is not a guarantee to secure job in South Sudan. However, they end up quitting their lifelong dream careers.
A course of five- six years takes eight to nine years in public universities in South Sudan to graduate due to unforeseen circumstances.
