Finance Ministry Clarifies Claims Over Minister’s Wife’s Jewelry

The Office of the Minister of Finance and Planning has issued a formal clarification following recent public discussions by Mrs. Adau Garang Ding and Mr. Kanybil Noon regarding the personal attire and jewelry of Madam Adol Khamis, wife of Finance Minister Hon. Kuol Daniel Ayulo.

According to the Ministry’s Public Relations Office, Madam Adol Khamis’s personal possessions predate Minister Ayulo’s appointment and are unrelated to the operations or finances of the government.

The Ministry said claims concerning the monetary value of her jewelry have been highly exaggerated, urging the public to distinguish between the private lives of officials’ family members and the responsibilities of public institutions.

It further stated that national economic challenges, including delays in civil servant salaries and domestic liquidity constraints, are the result of complex macroeconomic and financial management factors and are not connected to the personal properties of the Minister’s family.

The Office of the Minister reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fiscal reforms, and addressing the country’s economic challenges through objective policy measures.

Public Relations Officer Mapuor Matueny Ayual also called on the public, civil society, and media to focus on institutional accountability, policy implementation, and service delivery rather than personal family matters.

Artist Makur Amaljok Arrested After Alleged Contact by Vice President’s Bodyguard

South Sudanese artist Makur Amaljok was reportedly arrested after being contacted by a man who identified himself as a bodyguard to Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol.

According to an account provided by promoter Sixteen who made the connection, the man contacted him on a new telephone number and asked for Makur Amaljok’s phone number, claiming that the artist was needed by the Vice President to compose a wedding song.

Sixteen said he initially told the caller that he did not have Makur’s number. The caller contacted him again the following day and repeated the request. Sixteen said he later obtained a number and provided the caller with Makur’s correct contact number.

According to Sixteen, the caller then contacted Makur, who later called him and asked whether he had shared his number. Makur reportedly also questioned Promoter whether the request could be a setup.

Sixteen said he assured Makur that he was unaware of any plan and explained that the caller had told him Makur was being sought to compose a wedding song.

He said he then advised Makur to contact his manager so they could verify the request before proceeding. However, according to Sixteen, Makur went alone and was subsequently arrested.

Sixteen said Makur is now blaming him for providing his telephone number and has questioned why he shared it.

The circumstances surrounding Makur Amaljok’s arrest remain unclear, and the reason for his detention has not been independently established.

As of the time of this report, the office of Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol had not issued an official statement regarding the reported arrest or the allegations surrounding the incident.

Supreme Court Adjourns Ajing Deng Constitutional Petition Hearing to September 1

The Constitutional Panel of the Supreme Court of South Sudan has adjourned the hearing of former Executive Director in the Office of the President, Ajing Deng Ajing’s constitutional petition, to 1 September 2026, citing an incomplete Constitutional Panel.

The court was expected to continue considering the petition and the request for provisional remedies after dismissing two preliminary objections and confirming its constitutional jurisdiction over the case.

During the hearing, Ajing Deng’s legal team, led by George Angier, also raised concerns about his health. The lawyers asked the Supreme Court to allow him to seek medical treatment, saying he has been suffering from a serious dental problem for about one week and has reportedly been unable to access medication because of security restrictions.

The legal team further told the court that they have not been allowed to meet their client and appealed to the court to intervene and ensure that he receives the necessary medical attention. The lawyers stressed that his health condition requires urgent attention, although the health concern was not the reason for the adjournment.

Responding to the concern, Dr. Benjamin Baak Deng, the Chief Justice assured the legal team that the matter would be taken seriously, stating: “Truth is only one; there are no two truths. If he is sick, he is sick, and if he is not, he is not. We shall look into this matter seriously.” The court is now expected to resume the constitutional petition hearing on 1 September 2026.
