Using Trees as Windbreakers.
Trees can naturally serve as a breaker to a wind blowing in high speed to reduce the vulnerability to loss of lives and properties.
From the root system to stem, UpTo the crown all has a role to play in the wind breaking system.
We have 2 wind breaking systems commonly adopted in South Sudan
These are:
Windbreakers and shelterbelts.
Wind breakers are trees planted in a single row or line that will serve as a barrier from the source of the wind to its direction.
While;
Shelterbelts are trees planted in multiple rows, columns, or lines in order to strongly withstand the pressure of wind.
Apart from the control of wind erosion, it also helps in the control of soil erosion by holding the soil together via its roots.
