Mighty Tonj North midfielder No.10, Agiu Mabior Agiu, popularly known as Shaggy, will depart Juba today for Bahr el Ghazal.
Agiu Shaggy, one of the best midfielders of Mighty Tonj North—who scored the winning goal in the semi-final of the Warrap Peace Tournament, taking the team to the final—has announced his decision to leave the team due to what he described as disrespect by a member of the Tonj North management, Athieng Aduot Ayieny.
According to Shaggy, Athieng ordered security officers—special forces of the national security—to torture him and his friend Majok Akeen.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening when Athieng got into a fight with a Rasha rider, who happened to be Shaggy’s cousin.
When Shaggy saw Athieng fighting with someone—before realizing it was his cousin—he rushed in to calm the situation, asking both parties to understand each other.
However, Athieng allegedly ordered the special forces to arrest the Rasha rider. Shaggy followed them to see where they were taking his cousin. Upon arrival, Shaggy claims he was slapped and tortured along with Majok.
As a result, Shaggy decided to leave the Tonj North football team, stating that if the same people he serves through football are the ones disrespecting and torturing him, he cannot continue.
Upon hearing about the incident, the President of Mighty Tonj North Football Team, Deng Mayom Akeen, relieved Athieng Aduot Ayieny of her duties as Secretary for Finance.
Shaggy has expressed his disappointment over Athieng’s actions and confirmed that he will leave Juba today. He will not participate in either the Warrap State Peace Tournament final or the BCPT.
