Jonglei State Health Director General Survives Gun Attack on Bor Highway
The road to Bor—long & winding through a land rich in hope yet haunted by memory—became the stage for another tale of survival.
Dr. Reath Koang, the son of Jonglei’s soil & servant of its health, was on his journey—a mission of life, perhaps, for the sick & the weary—when the road betrayed him.
From the bush, faceless men, children of a broken promise, rose & spoke in the harsh tongue of bullets. Metal against metal. Wind against fear.
The car groaned as the bullets kissed its body, but inside sat a man whose spirit had already been tempered by struggle. He did not fall.
The gunmen melted back into the bush, nameless as the hunger that made them pull the trigger. The authorities promise investigations, but the people have heard such words before.
For now, travelers will whisper prayers as usual before they take the road, & mothers will watch the horizon, waiting for sons who may not return.
The road to Bor, like the many roads of our continent, has become a place where fear walks freely, where the poor count their dead while the powerful make speeches.
Each attack is not only a crime against one man but a wound upon the nation’s soul—a reminder that freedom without security is a hollow promise.
How long shall the children of the same earth raise weapons against one another instead of hands to build?
