Condolence Message

I joined mourners at Juba International airport in receiving the body of the late Gen. Albino Akol Akol — a distinguished veteran, a patriot, and a pillar of our liberation struggle.

Gen. Albino was more than a military leader; he was a symbol of dedication and sacrifice. His unwavering commitment to the freedom and future of our country will never be forgotten. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life that was wholly devoted to building and defending South Sudan.

There is much to learn from his legacy — from his courage, his humility, and above all, his deep love for this nation. We offer our sincere condolences to his family, his comrades, and to the people of South Sudan. He will be deeply missed.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Mass marking the life of Late Pope Francis in Juba

This morning, I joined H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit and other faithful Christian’s at St. Theresa’s Cathedral in Juba to honour the life and legacy of the late Pope Francis.

As I stood in the presence of South Sudanese from all walks of life—united in prayer, reflection, and remembrance—I was deeply moved by the enduring impact of Pope Francis’s message of peace, reconciliation, and unity. His 2023 pilgrimage to our country rekindled hope and faith in the hearts of many and it was evident throughout today’s service.

During the service, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, reflected on the Pope’s message of forgiveness, inclusivity, and harmony - values that resonate deeply with our country’s pursuit of lasting peace. He reminded us of the mark Pope Francis left on South Sudan’s journey toward reconciliation, and paid tribute to him as a steadfast friend and a beacon of hope and compassion for our people.

I thank Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Séamus Patrick Horgan and Archbishop Dr. Justin Badi Arama for leading us in such a heartfelt tribute.

Rest in peace, Holy Father. Your light lives on in the soul of our nation.

Condolence message

Together with some of the leadership of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, I visited the Embassy of the Vatican in Juba to extend our heartfelt condolences on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis.

South Sudan mourns this loss deeply. We are forever grateful for the hope and prayers Pope Francis covered our country in—especially during the most difficult chapters of our history. He didn’t just speak about peace; he acted on it. He stood with us, he prayed with us, and he believed in us.

His compassion and courage meant so much to the people of this young nation. For Catholics across the world and here at home, this is a profound loss. We will continue to carry his message of peace as we work every day toward a future that reflects the values he championed: unity, healing, and lasting peace.

May his gentle soul rest in peace and may Christian’s worldwide be comforted during this difficult time.

Easter Reflections

This Easter Sunday, I had the honour of attending Mass at St. Theresa’s Cathedral alongside fellow believers and national leaders, including H.E. Salva Kiir Mayaradit, the President of the Republic of South Sudan. It was a deeply moving service filled with prayer, reflection, and a resounding message of hope.

As we celebrate the resurrection of Christ, may we also recommit ourselves to the path of peace, unity, and nation-building. Easter reminds us that even after the darkest nights, there is the promise of a new dawn.

In his Easter message, the President reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to achieving lasting peace in our beloved South Sudan. His words echoed the very spirit of Easter—a time of renewal, reconciliation, and the triumph of hope over despair.

Let us carry that hope forward as we continue to work together to build a stronger, more unified South Sudan.

I wish you all a blessed Easter season.

Heartfelt Condolences on the Passing of Ms. Victoria Otieno

It is with profound sorrow that I mourn the passing of my dear friend and sister, Victoria Otieno, who left us yesterday while surrounded by family in Nairobi.

Victoria was more than just a friend—she was a steadfast companion, a visionary, and a tireless advocate for the empowerment of South Sudanese women. Her dedication to uplifting and advancing women’s economic independence was not just a mission but a passion that defined her life’s work.

Her passing has left an immeasurable void, not only in my heart but in the hearts of all who knew her. We have lost a remarkable and professional African daughter, a woman of wisdom, strength, and purpose.

As we grieve this great loss, let us also honor her legacy by continuing the work she so passionately championed. My deepest condolences go to her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.

SEEKING PARLIAMENTARY INPUT TOWARDS ENHANCING YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN PEACE PROMOTION

I had the pleasure of engaging with representatives from the Youth Organization for Peace Support to explore concrete ways to enhance youth involvement in peace initiatives. Our discussions focused on fostering plans for the repatriation of refugees and organizing a Cultural Day to celebrate and promote diversity among all sixty-four tribes of South Sudan.

On our part, as the TNLA, we encouraged the organization to prioritize cultural diversity and inclusion, particularly in education, health, and women’s empowerment. Meanwhile, the organization’s representative, Molana Matthew Sometimes, highlighted their ongoing efforts in sanitation, education, and health as key contributions to peacebuilding.

Empowering our youth to take an active role in fostering peace and unity is a priority. I look forward to continued collaborations with organisations focused on peace and development.

A Milestone for the South Sudan Women’s General Association

Day 3 of the National Women’s Conference was a remarkable display of democracy in action, as the South Sudan Women’s General Association (SSWGA) successfully conducted its leadership elections. The process was free, fair, and transparent—an example of how strong institutions and commitment to democratic values can lead to credible outcomes.

The peaceful and well-organized elections reflect the collective will of the women of South Sudan, demonstrating that when processes are built on trust, inclusivity, and accountability, democracy thrives. This should serve as a benchmark for electoral integrity across all institutions in our country.

Congratulations to the newly elected leadership of SSWGA! May they carry forward the vision of unity, empowerment, and progress for the women of South Sudan.

Our Nation Mourns: Honoring the Lives Lost in the Unity State Plane Crash

My heart and the hearts of our nations people remain heavy following the tragic plane crash in Unity State that claimed the lives of 20 dedicated GPOC Engineers. This devastating loss has left our nation in shock and deep sorrow.

Myself along with some of the TNLA leadership felt it was important to visit the GPOC headquarters in Juba to personally extend our condolences to the families and colleagues of the victims. Meeting with them, hearing their grief, and standing with them in this painful moment was a solemn reminder of how much these people meant to their loved ones and to our country.

Their dedication and service will never be forgotten. May their souls rest in eternal peace, and may their families and colleagues find strength and comfort in the days ahead.

Meeting with South Sudan Students Union in Uganda Leadership

Last week I had the pleasure of welcoming the leadership of the South Sudan Students’ Union in Uganda to my office for a courtesy visit. It was wonderful to see them again and hear updates on their progress since I attended their inauguration last year during my visit to Uganda.

I commend their dedication and hard work in pursuing their studies and reminded them that they are the future of our nation. Education is the key to building a prosperous South Sudan, and I encourage them to remain focused and committed to their academic journey.

I sincerley wish them all the best in their endeavors!

Day 1 of the National Women’s Conference: A Powerful Start!

Tuesday marked the beginning of the National Women’s Conference at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Juba, bringing together remarkable women leaders, policymakers, and advocates for gender equality. It was an honor to deliver remarks alongside distinguished guests, including H.E. Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior, our Vice President for the Gender and Youth Cluster, who officially opened the conference.

I was also privileged to take part in an engaging panel discussion on the essence of women’s associations, alongside my esteemed colleagues in government and civil society. We explored how strong women’s networks can drive meaningful change, amplify our voices, and solidify our role in decision-making processes.

As we continue this important conference, I look forward to more insightful discussions, particularly on strengthening women’s leadership and representation in governance. The energy and determination in the room reaffirm our collective commitment to advancing the rights and empowerment of women in South Sudan.

Stay tuned for more updates as we work together to shape a brighter future for women across the country.
