President Kiir to provide support to affected Custom Market fire traders, orders investigation into the cause of fire

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed government agencies to support traders who lost property in the Nyakuron–Custom Market fire and ordered an immediate investigation into what caused the blaze.

In a statement Tuesday, Kiir expressed deep regret over the destruction of shops and merchandise, calling the incident a major blow to families and small businesses. He said the government would help affected traders recover and resume their livelihoods.

Kiir instructed security and relevant ministries to conduct a thorough probe, reinforce fire-safety measures across Juba and ensure similar incidents are prevented.

Authorities have not yet determined what sparked the fire, which broke out Monday evening and swept through the busy commercial area.
