Prophet Deng Loth-Chom's stance on the modalities of disarmament is the same as mine.
First of all, no one knows who has a gun and who doesn't. And since the statistics of guns they had isn't known, we should opt for a leadership approach, by using the state and county leadership(s) to persuade these young people to surrender arms, willingly, through their heads, more especially spiritual leaders. The influences of spiritual and community leaders mustn't be ignored.
Secondly, these young people sold their cows and bought the guns - they needed it to guard their cattle from thieves and themselves, both within and beyond.
If you want to take their guns, you need to give them assurances and provide answers to their concerns, from their security to their resources.
Beside all these, one thing that led to the failures of the so-called Peace conference is the deliberate sidelining of other senior government officials hailing from Mayom County. You can't have a conference, with participants selectively handpicked, the influences those not invited are of great impact once ignored or exploited.
Someone like Rt Hon Gen Bapiny Manytuil(Deputy Speaker, Council of States, and Hon Michael Chiangjiek (National Minister), Hon Tut Gatluak, among others.
And the primary causes of all these are the unclearness of the conference. It wasn't clear whether the counterparts, from Warrap state, and other neighbouring AAs and counties are doing the same exercises.
And it wasn't clear if it was Bul Community conference, because if it was, these above-mentioned personalities won't have missed out.
Tell the governor, his government and military leaders not to mess up with the spiritual leaders, these are the most influential people we should treat with care.
