The Status Quo of the Abyei Area: Where there's a will, there's a way

The Ngok Dinka of Abyei are South Sudanese (99.98%) and enjoy all rights and obligations in South Sudan. However, there are very few elements from Ngok Dinka of Abyei who believe that they are Sudanese, but they don't enjoy all rights and obligations in Sudan. The Hague Court of Arbitration has defined the Abyei Area, the land of the Ngok Dinka of Abyei, which looks like a box. Therefore, the Abyei Area is sometimes called the Abyei Box. The area is not yet demarcated (er****on of concrete polls on the borders of the Abyei Area) as direct by The Hague Arbitration Award. The Abyei Area is still disputed between South Sudan and Sudan. There is a Juba Appointed Administration in Abyei Town and a Khartoum Appointed Administration in Port Sudan. UNISFA is protecting the Abyei Area, and AUPSC and UNSC are always calling on South Sudan and Sudan to reach an agreement on the final status of the Abyei Area. That is roughly the status quo.

In my opinion, the Abyei SPLM is not satisfied with the status quo, and that why they are pursuing the settlement of the final status of the Abyei Area. Some of the mechanisms established to pursue the settlement of the final status of the Abyei Area are: a. The Abyei File Office, which is now called the South Sudan National Committee for the Final Status of the Abyei Area, and b. AJOC South Sudan. Membership of these two organisations includes cadres of the Abyei SPLM who have a lot of experiences from the liberation of South Sudan, among Hon. Deng Alor, Justice Deng Arop and Justice Deng Biong, and who are committed to the Abyei cause (they have the political will). What are now challenging their progress in pursuing the settlement of the final of the Abyei Area are serious political crises in South Sudan and Sudan, the two parties of the dispute over the Abyei Area. However, "Where there's a will, there's a way." The struggle for the Abyei cause is still continuing, and therefore comes the importance of 'the Abyei Cause Day,' the 31st of October. The day in wish to remind the cadres of the Abyei SPLM and our people to continue the struggle for the Abyei cause. Thanks.

‎His untimely death has left us heartbroken and in profound sorrow. The void he leaves behind is one that can never be filled. I am overwhelmed with grief and struggle to find the words to fully express the pain in my heart.
