PRESS STATEMENT ON THE HEALTH OF HON. DENG ALOR KUOL

The family of Hon. Deng Alor Kuol, represented by Madam Misrak Yitbarek, Alor Deng Alor, Samora Deng Alor, Bezaleel Balan, and Melaku Deng Alor, together with the entire Ngok community, wishes to provide the following update on his health and to express its profound appreciation for the support and solidarity extended to him during this difficult time.
Hon. Deng Alor Kuol is currently receiving specialized medical treatment in Nairobi, Kenya, following his medical evacuation after he sustained a stroke in the early hours of Wednesday, 4 August 2026.
Successful Brain Surgery
The family is pleased to inform the public that on Sunday, 9 August 2026, between 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., Hon. Deng Alor Kuol underwent brain surgery to remove blood clots and relieve the pressure caused by the stroke.
We are grateful to Almighty God that the operation was successfully completed.
Hon. Deng Alor Kuol remains under the close supervision and care of his medical team. The family is encouraged by the progress being made and by his response to the medical care and treatment being provided.
While his recovery remains under close medical supervision, the family remains hopeful and confident that, with God’s grace and the dedicated efforts of his doctors, he will continue to make steady progress toward full recovery.
Appreciation to H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit
The family expresses its profound gratitude to His Excellency Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, for his swift intervention, personal concern, and decisive support in arranging the emergency air ambulance evacuation of Hon. Deng Alor Kuol to Nairobi for specialized medical treatment.
The family deeply appreciates this timely humanitarian intervention.
President Salva Kiir has publicly referred to Hon. Deng Alor Kuol as his elder brother, and during this medical emergency, His Excellency once again demonstrated the meaning of that relationship through his personal intervention and support. His presence at Juba International Airport to see Hon. Deng Alor Kuol off as he departed by air ambulance was a profound gesture of brotherhood, leadership, and compassion.
The family and the Ngok community are deeply grateful for this support at a critical moment.
Appreciation to Government Officials
The family and the Ngok community also extend their sincere appreciation to:
• H.E. James Wani Igga, Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan;
• H.E. Taban Deng G*i, Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan;
• Hon. Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit; and
• all senior government officials and dignitaries who were present at Juba International Airport to see off Hon. Deng Alor Kuol as he departed for medical treatment in Nairobi.
Their presence and support provided comfort and encouragement to the family during an extremely difficult moment.
Appreciation to the People of South Sudan and the Ngok Community
The family, represented by Madam Misrak Yitbarek, Alor Deng Alor, Samora Deng Alor, Bezaleel Balan, and Melaku Deng Alor, also expresses its heartfelt appreciation to the people of South Sudan, the Ngok community, friends, colleagues, relatives, and well-wishers for the overwhelming prayers, messages of support, solidarity, and encouragement extended to Hon. Deng Alor Kuol and his family.
The outpouring of compassion witnessed at King Special Hospital, Juba International Airport, and across South Sudan and beyond has been a great source of strength to the family.
Appeal for Continued Prayers
The family respectfully appeals to all South Sudanese, the Ngok community, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers to continue praying for Hon. Deng Alor Kuol’s complete and speedy recovery.
The family is encouraged by the successful outcome of the surgery and the positive signs being observed under the care of his medical team. Nevertheless, his recovery remains a continuing medical process requiring close monitoring and care.
We therefore ask everyone to continue placing him in their prayers and to give him the privacy and peaceful environment necessary for his recovery.
Further updates on his condition will be communicated by the family as appropriate.
The family remains deeply touched by the unity, compassion, prayers, and solidarity demonstrated by the people of South Sudan and friends around the world during this difficult period.
May Almighty God guide and strengthen the medical team, continue to heal Hon. Deng Alor Kuol, and grant him complete and speedy recovery.
