New CDF of South Sudan People’s Defence Forces thanks President Kiir, pledges loyalty

The newly appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), Gen. Dau Aturjuong has expressed his gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for his appointment and pledged to work closely with him.

Speaking at the reception ceremony organized by the Peth Atak Community in Juba on Thursday, General Dau excitedly welcomed the appointment, and trust bestowed on him to lead the national army.

"President Kiir did not forget about me. He lifted me from a very deep hole to the top where everyone could see me," General Dau said as he concluded his remarks.

General further acknowledged the magnitude of his new role asserting “This appointment came at a tough time. It is the hardest task, but I believe God will stand with me to succeed."

The reception ceremony was attended by masses, including politicians, Army Generals, traditional dances, and the public.

Akut Diar Pachier Worldwide celebrates 14th anniversary, calls for unity

A group named Akut Diar Pachier Worldwide on Wednesday at 107, celebrated a 14th Independence of South Sudan, calling on South Sudanese to embrace unity and peace across the country.

The group formed two years ago, aimed at promoting peace and unity across the nation, emphasizing that the group doesn't belong to Pachier only but for any willing women.

Speaking during the meeting, Founder Mary George Machar said uniting a nation requires collective responsibility from its citizens.

"For us to be a nation, it was not easy. Women and men contributed alot. As women we carried bullet boxes on our heads supporting our soldiers during liberation struggle. Today we celebrate our Independence Day," she said.

She furthermore emphasized on the need of lasting peace in the country stating, "we don't feel happy when we see our children on the streets, others dying in tribal conflicts. We urge our leaders to give us peace and unity amongst South Sudanese."
