Opinion continues to follow as the public raises concern over Ezra/Jedco and telecommunication companies' unfair treatment of South Sudanese people.

What Ezra/JEDCO and other telecommunications companies in South Sudan are doing today will not remain without accountability forever. Even if it takes 50 years, history has a way of bringing the truth to light. The decisions being made, the resources being controlled, and the way businesses operate will eventually be evaluated and questioned.

For too long, certain opportunities and benefits have remained concentrated in the hands of a small group of elites, while the wider population has had limited opportunities to benefit. However, time changes circumstances, and no individual, company, or group remains beyond evaluation forever.

One day, there will be a serious assessment of how these companies were established, how they operated, what they contributed to the country, and whether they served the interests of the people of South Sudan. Those who benefited from the system will also be called upon to explain their decisions and actions.

Accountability does not always come immediately. Sometimes it takes years or even generations. But the passage of time does not erase responsibility. Records, decisions, agreements, and actions can eventually be examined, and history will judge whether they contributed to the development of the nation or mainly benefited a few individuals.

The message is therefore simple, those benefiting today should not assume that the present situation will continue forever. South Sudan belongs to its people, and its resources and opportunities should ultimately serve the public interest. Whether it takes five years, twenty years, or fifty years, there will come a time when the actions of today’s companies, leaders, and elites are evaluated.

Time may delay accountability, but it cannot permanently erase it.

The Undersecretary in the Ministry of Transport
Paul Dhel Gum expressed his concern over the fairness, ownership, and consumer protection of EZRA / JEDCO Power in the city.
He emphasized the need for transparent regulations to ensure that all stakeholders are treated equitably. Additionally, Gum called for a thorough review of existing policies to protect consumers from potential exploitation.

Apparently, to have your property connected to city power, Ezra/JEDCO requires you to personally pay for the poles, transformer, cables, installation and labour costs. Depending on the connection, this can cost anywhere between USD 4,000 and USD 20,000 or even more.

After spending your own money to purchase and install all this equipment, your property is connected and you continue paying the normal electricity consumption bills. Yet, strangely, the equipment you paid for effectively becomes the property of the power company. You lose ownership of the poles, transformer and cables without compensation, even though the company did not finance their purchase.

In simple terms, the customer finances the infrastructure, pays for the connection, continues paying for the electricity consumed, and still loses ownership of the equipment purchased with his or her own money.

This situation is difficult to comprehend. At the very least, it raises serious questions of fairness, ownership and consumer protection. There must be a clearer and more reasonable policy governing who pays for electricity infrastructure and who ultimately owns it.

Twic Students Association Donates Food and Essential Items to University of Juba Students

Twic Mayardit Students Association in Higher Universities and Learning Institutions in Juba, under the leadership of Daniel Reech Mam, has donated food and essential household items to Twic Mayardit students residing at the University of Juba Hostel.

The donation is aimed at supporting the students’ welfare and easing some of the challenges they face while pursuing their higher education in Juba.

The donated items included foodstuffs, household supplies, personal-care products and other essential items.

The order remains in effect

The community tournament organizers from Warrap State Peace Tournament, Bahr El Ghazal Counties Tournament, Twic Mayardit Peace Tournament, and Duk County Peace Tournament met to discuss the management of their remaining matches. I emphasized that some fans have misbehaved, tarnishing the image of South Sudan, and that organizers have not sufficiently collaborated with authorities to establish mechanisms to prevent violence.

The Bahr El Ghazal Counties Tournament organizers reported disqualifying one county and fining individual teams due to fan misconduct and negative attitudes.

All organizers acknowledged receipt of the Ministerial order and committed to respecting and complying with its provisions. They will now engage with the CES Youth and Sports Commission to ensure adherence.

Until the temporary suspension is lifted, the order remains in effect. All sports field managers have been instructed not to permit community tournaments on their grounds.

Next, the CES Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, National Ministry of Youth and Sports, Juba Football Association, and South Sudan Football Federation will meet to explore collaborative approaches to address these issues.
