Juba – A prominent supporter of Arsenal team. Mr. Joseph Majok Ayar president of BCPT, has pledged $1000 USD to support the upcoming sixth edition of the Twic Mayardit Peace Tournament.

The pledge was made yesterday during the draw ceremony for the tournament.

Organizers have welcomed the contribution, saying it will help strengthen peace-building efforts through sports.

𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝟐𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant government institutions to urgently address challenges facing South Sudan's foreign missions abroad, following a briefing at State House on Thursday.

The directive followed a progress report presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dr. James Pitia Morgan, outlining the current situation at the country's diplomatic missions and steps being taken to improve operations.

President Kiir emphasised the importance of strengthening the country’s diplomatic presence abroad and ensuring foreign missions are adequately supported to represent the country's interests internationally.

Speaking after the briefing, Dr. Morgan said the Ministry would continue working closely with the Ministry of Presidential Affairs and other government institutions to resolve the challenges affecting its diplomatic missions. He also expressed appreciation to President Kiir for his continued commitment to supporting the Ministry in executing its mandate.

The President reaffirmed his full support for efforts aimed at resolving concerns related to foreign affairs and the operations of the nation's diplomatic missions abroad.
This comes as the government puts in place stringent policies to improve the effectiveness of public institutions and enhance its diplomatic engagement globally.

Veteran General Seeks Meeting with President Kiir, Citing Protocol Barriers

A retired senior military officer is reportedly struggling to secure a meeting with the President of the Republic, General Salva Kiir Mayardit, despite indications that the President wishes to see him.

According to a social media post shared by Luka Koryom, long-serving veteran General Deng Deng Marach (also known as Deng Awai) is seeking a meeting with President Salva Kiir. Although the President is said to want to meet him, General Marach has been unable to access the presidential office due to protocol restrictions at J1.

General Marach retired from the prison service in 2012. He is currently in need of medical care and has also called for his long-awaited reward for service to the nation. His family are now appealing to protocol officers to facilitate a meeting between the veteran and the President.

Separately, General Deng Awai has revealed that he received a call some years ago, but when he arrived in the capital Juba from his village, he was unable to meet the President due to similar protocol processes.

𝐉𝐔𝐁𝐀, 𝐌𝐀𝐘 𝟐𝟎, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit today met with his longtime liberation comrade, Major General William Deng Garang, in a meeting marked by reflection, friendship, and shared memories from South Sudan’s struggle for freedom.

President Kiir and Gen. William Deng Garang shared a long history dating back to the liberation struggle. Both men stood together during difficult years of war and sacrifice that eventually led to the independence of South Sudan. Their relationship is rooted in the early years of the movement and the sacrifices made by countless sons and daughters of the country.

The meeting comes only days after President Kiir publicly recognised Gen. William Deng Garang Bany during the 43rd Anniversary of the SPLM/SPLA liberation struggle on May 16, 2026, where the President emotionally recalled their wartime experiences and paid tribute to his comrade’s role in the liberation journey. During the occasion, President Kiir paused his address to salute William Deng Garang and praised his contribution to the struggle and the achievement of independence.

During the May 16 commemoration, President Kiir reminded South Sudanese of the sacrifices made by liberation heroes and acknowledged William Deng Garang as one of the comrades who stood firm during the most difficult periods of the struggle.

Today's meeting reflected the enduring bonds forged during the liberation era and served as a reminder of the shared history and sacrifices that shaped the Republic of South Sudan.
