UoJ Student calls for PLO Lumumba to deliver public lecture

Bol Chadar Tong, a student at the School of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Juba, has urged the university administration to take advantage of the presence of renowned Kenyan lawyer, scholar, and Pan-Africanist, Prof. PLO Lumumba, in Juba.

Bol suggested that the university should invite Prof. Lumumba to deliver a public lecture on governance, leadership, and the future of Africa, highlighting the importance of such an engagement for students of the country’s leading institution.

“Since Prof. Lumumba is present in Juba, the Political Science students of the University of Juba should take the opportunity to invite him for a public lecture on governance, leadership, and the future of Africa,” Bol stated in his post.

Professor PLO Lumumba, a prominent Kenyan lawyer and Pan-Africanist, has delivered impactful lectures across various African nations, advocating for unity, good governance, and self-reliance. His engagements have spanned countries such as South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia, Malawi, and Somaliland among others.

PLO Lumumba arrives in Juba ahead of government–Riek Machar case

Renowned Kenyan scholar, lawyer, and Pan-Africanist Prof. PLO Lumumba has arrived in Juba alongside Laat Maker Riak, the CEO of Achibileuyic, ahead of Monday’s trial in the government–Riek Machar case.

In a social media post, Laat Maker Riak emphasized the importance of safeguarding South Sudan’s sovereignty. The post suggested that Lumumba is in Juba to defend the government in the Nasir case against suspended First Vice President Riek Machar Teny.

“We must do whatever it takes within our capacity and conscience to defend our nation’s sovereignty.”

Tiger Division commander reshuffles security team around President Kiir, bans removed two officers from accessing President

Major General Philip Nyon, the commander of the Tiger Division, has announced major changes within the security team guarding President Salva Kiir.

Brigadier General Bang Wieu has been removed as head of the close presidential protection unit and replaced with Brigadier General Madut Ayai (pictured). In addition, Colonel Mawien Garang, who has long served as the president’s personal assistant, has also been dismissed.

Both officers have reportedly been barred from accessing the president or entering M4, the close protection base near the presidential residence.

The shake-up comes just a week after Maj. Gen. Nyon’s removal was swiftly reversed only hours after his replacement was announced.

BREAKING: Trial of Dr. Riek Machar to Begin Next Monday.

The legal defense team confirmed that the detained and suspended First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar, will appear before the court next Monday in Juba to begin his trial sessions.

Kur Lual Kur, one of the lead lawyers on Machar’s defense team and for the other defendants, stated that the government officially informed them that the sessions will commence at 9 a.m. on September 22 before a special court established in the capital.

Kor explained in a statement to “ Eye Radio” that he met with Machar and his other clients three times during the week, confirming that they are in good health and ready for the proceedings. He added: “In the first session, the president and members of the court will be introduced, along with their powers and authorities, according to the formation order issued by the Chief Justice.”

Last week, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs charged Machar, detained Petroleum Minister Puot Kang, and several IO leaders with murder, high treason, conspiracy, financing terrorist acts, undermining state authority, and crimes against humanity.

These charges are related to the violence that occurred in Nasir County, Upper Nile State, last March, which resulted in the death of a General in the People’s Defense Forces along with hundreds of soldiers.
