UAE-based government critic Deng Dut Koor reportedly arrested at JKIA

A UAE-based South Sudanese government critic, William Deng Dut Koor, has reportedly been arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya.

According to a source, Deng was arrested while in transit at JKIA by individuals suspected to be Kenyan security officers. It remains unclear where he was coming from, but sources say he was traveling to the United Arab Emirates.

His current place of detention is not known, and Kenyan authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.

Deng is widely known for his social media videos in which he claims to expose corruption within the government and often calls out senior government officials and other individuals by name.

In a recent video, Deng revealed that he possessed a Sudanese diplomatic passport and alleged that he is a general in the Sudanese army.

Breaking News: Conty Okot P'Ogwaro Confirmed Dead in Juba Shooting.

Conty Okot P'Ogwaro has been confirmed dead following a shooting incident involving a government-registered V6 vehicle along the Custom–Rock City road in Juba this morning.

The shooting occurred around 7:00 AM, resulting in at least one fatality. It prompted temporary road closures between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM, disrupting traffic to Kor–William, Rock City, and Custom areas.

A video circulating on social media shows the V6 riddled with bullet holes, an unidentified man slumped in the driver's seat, and bottles believed to be alcohol inside the vehicle.

Tuesday, 13 January 2026 Juba, South Sudan

The SPLM 1st Deputy Chairman, Cde. Prof. James Wani Igga, on Tuesday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the SPLM National Youth League Chairperson, Cde. Puok Bol Par, at the SPLM House in Juba.

Addressing the gathering after taking the oath, the newly appointed SPLM Youth National leader, Cde. Par, expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to H.E. Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Chairman of the SPLM and President of the Republic of South Sudan, for the trust and confidence he had bestowed upon him.

He described his appointment as both a great honor and a heavy responsibility, pledging to serve the party and the country with humility, dedication, and unwavering commitment.

'I do not celebrate appointments,' he said. 'I receive this responsibility as a challenge, not merely as an opportunity. During our liberation struggle, commanders did not celebrate assignments but celebrated victories, I will only celebrate this appointment when we regain the trust of our people and secure victory for our party and the nation.'

Cde. Puok B. Par emphasized his determination to mobilize, organize, and empower the youth, noting that young people remain a critical force in advancing the SPLM’s vision and strengthening grassroots engagement across the country.

He further extended a hand of cooperation to members of the Youth League Executive, reaffirming his readiness to work collectively, listen to diverse views, and move forward together as one team.

He concluded by calling on all SPLM youth members to remain committed, disciplined, and focused on serving the party and the people of South Sudan.
