woman wounded in the Khor Khaltan attacks has successfully undergone an emergency operation at Nile Kings Specialist Hospital in Juba.

She had suffered a gunshot injury to the head, with the bullet still lodged inside, along with severe third-degree burns covering parts of her body. The delicate surgery was performed by a skilled team of medical professionals.

The procedure was led by Dr. Gum Marial Chanuong, supported by Dr. Jok Malith and Dr. Rita Foni. The anaesthesia was managed by Abrahoma, while scrub nurses Ruach, Mohammed, and Nicholas assisted during the operation.

According to hospital officials, the treatment was provided at no cost. Despite the successful surgery, the patient is still in critical condition and is being closely monitored by medical staff.

WATCH: Aweil community’s an elder Leader Amb. Garang Deng Aguer questions role,capacities of five Vice Presidents amid Jabel Khor-Kaltan attacks

Ambassador Garang Deng Aguer, founder of the Reconciliation Ministry and an elder of the Aweil Community, has criticised the leadership of South Sudan, questioning the role of the country’s five Vice Presidents.

He expressed concern over what he described as a failure by senior government officials to visit bereaved families following recent deadly attacks.

Speaking at graveyard on Friday, Amb. Aguer said he expected at least one Vice President to visit victims of the Abiemnhom attack, which claimed over 200 lives, as well as those affected by the recent violence in Khor-Kaltan, Jebel Iraq, where more than 30 people were killed.

He noted that in other countries, national leaders often suspend official schedules to mourn with citizens or delegate such responsibilities to their deputies.

“With this number of Vice Presidents, shouldn’t one be able to come and visit the people?” he questioned. “Over 200 were killed in Abiemnhom—was it not expected that at least one Vice President would go? What exactly are they there to do?”

Amb. Aguer also criticised ongoing political campaigns, arguing that leaders are seeking votes without ensuring the safety of citizens.

“Now they talk about elections. How many votes have we just lost; 200 in Abiemnhom, and more in this recent attack? One vote can determine the outcome of an election. If they are talking about elections, who will vote for them if they cannot protect the voters?” he added.

University of Juba students call for ban on fi****ms on campus

Students at the University of Juba are urging the administration to ban fi****ms on campus, saying the presence of guns puts lives at risk. 

The call follows growing concern in recent days, led by a student who wrote in a shared Facebook post: “The university of Juba administration should not allow guns at the campus. The university is not a military barracks.” He posted.

Students say there are no consistent checks at campus gates, allowing armed individuals to enter freely.

Some students are asking the university to enforce a clear “no-fi****ms” policy for all students and visitors, strengthen gate screening, and communicate safety rules more clearly.

The concerns come as South Sudan faces rising violence. In recent days, there has been multiple reports of armed violence attacks in Juba, highlighting the risks posed by widespread access to weapons.

Students say the university administration should act quickly to keep the campus safe and focused on learning.
