VP Hussein Abdelbagi Calls for Two Universities in Kuajok and Aweil
Vice President for the Service Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, has appealed to President Salva Kiir Mayardit to establish two universities in Warrap and Northern Bahr el Ghazal states, citing limited access to higher education in the two regions.
Speaking during a peace rally in Kuajok on Saturday, the Vice President said many students complete secondary education but are unable to pursue university studies due to the absence of higher learning institutions in their states.
“We have many secondary schools, but when our students complete their studies, many of them have nowhere to continue their education. Not every family can afford to send their children to Juba or other distant universities,” Hussein said.
He noted that communities in Warrap and Northern Bahr el Ghazal have long expressed a strong desire for improved access to higher education, and urged the President to consider establishing two universities—one in Warrap and one in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
“Your Excellency, the people of Warrap and Northern Bahr el Ghazal are yearning for higher education. As we return to Juba, I respectfully appeal to you to establish two universities, one for Warrap and another for Northern Bahr el Ghazal, so that our young people can access quality education closer to home and contribute to the development of our nation,” he added.
