Maternal and Paternal Families of Mr. Chuor Deng Chuor Gather to Bless Bride Wealth Ahead of Traditional Marriage Ceremony

The paternal and maternal families of Mr. Chuor Deng Chuor, of the Pajuor clan in Aweng Payam, Twic County (Twic Mayardit), have gathered to bless the bride wealth ahead of its formal showcasing and handover.

The bride wealth includes 100 cows, 25 steer bulls, 1 mature bull, and 30 sheep — a significant offering that reflects cultural values and the importance of honoring the bride’s family in Dinka tradition.

The livestock will later be presented to the family of Ms. Aluel Chom Ring, of the Pajung clan, also from Aweng Payam, Twic County (Twic Mayardit), once they arrive. This cultural step symbolizes unity, respect for tradition, and the central role of family blessings in Dinka customary marriage.

In a marriage negotiation of brideprice held today at Yam Hotel-Juba, the families of two love birds between Mr. Manasa Machar Bol Yai Maror and Arek G*i Deng G*i have officially agreed on the marriage settlement of matrimonial union of their children.

The traditional and white weddings are expected to be conducted as matrimonial proceedings are underway.

My take on the withdrawal of Akuar Athokbekdit FT from Twic Mayardit Sport Activities/events..

As a proud son and a man who has been so much proud of my community, I feel the need to address the decision made by our management and the president to withdraw from Twic Sport Activities.
The decision was indeed shallow, we may have right as I believe but we shouldn’t have withdrawn from TMPT and any other sports activities because Akuar is bigger than anyone of us and we shouldn’t be taking it that far in such cases. The outcome was indeed unforgivable since our right was acknowledged, but then again we must remember that we are part of Twic Mayardit Community and have right to stand up for our rights.
Withdrawing because of one person was not acceptable. Manut Sultan Bith and his committee are not bigger than Wut Akuar. We should only be asking for their resignations from their respective positions if they have failed to solve this issue amicably. Anyone who wishes to lead should take the job and still be part of everything.

We are part of Twic Mayardit community and we must stand firm against anything that takes away our right. Where are we going to as a community?
Does that mean we can’t manage to ask for our right?
Should we always be withdrawing if our right is not met? Let’s stop being emotional in this case and follow it professionally.

Our management has also failed to deliver what we were expecting from them, but they are now trying to cover it up with their failures during our games.
We played three games without scoring a single goal, failed to convince our best players to play for us, and also didn’t give them confidence to compete in the tournament. Isn’t that concerning?
There is no passion at all. Since the Olympic days back then, Akuar has never won any trophy and it doesn’t really mean that we lack good players. We have a lot of talented players but can’t talk to them in a way that would give them hope.

SSRA and CES fight over tax collection in Juba

South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) and Central Equatoria state (CES) have started fresh wrangles over tax collection in Juba City.

While CES want to collect taxes from Companies and Organization in their territory, the South Sudan revenue Authority stopped them adding that they are not legally mandated to collect.

The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) Commissioner Simon Akuei Deng in letter dated 19 2025 clarified that state government can collect taxes base on governor’s forum resolution adding that it was not legally binding.

In respond CES urged the SSRA to cease interfering in their mandate of tax collection.
Speaking to Journalists after Central Equatoria State (CES) Economic cluster meeting, Alex Latiyo the secretary of CES Economic cluster expressed that the statement from SSRA became an obstacle in tax collection.

“Therefore, the CES government and the state ministerial economic cluster urged the National Revenue Authority to reconsider their state because it has become impediment for collection of revenue which are rightfully belong to CES state” Latiyo said

He added that the state economic cluster deliberated matter and found out that the state government has legal mandate and urged the SSRA to reconsider their statement.

“After in-depth deliberation and serious scrutiny, it was confirmed that CES Revenue Authority is collecting its revenue source inline with constitution of the Republic of South Sudan article 179 which give CES and other state of the Republic of South Sudan an exclusive power to collect revenues” he said.

He added that CES state government like any other state is acting within the constitution in regards to revenue collection.

Lily Adhieu Martin Manyiel has been appointed as South Sudan’s new ambassador to Qatar.

This change comes just two months after she was assigned to serve as ambassador to Ethiopia.

She was relieved from her role as Press Secretary in the Office of President in February 2025.
