Subject: Statement Regarding the Circulation of a Private Video

LN24 Media's correspondent in Gambella, Ethiopia, conducted an interview on 3 June 2026 with Ms. Nyagoa Tong Kun concerning a private video that has recently circulated on various social media platforms.

During the interview, Ms. Nyagoa stated that the video in question was created exclusively for medical consultation purposes. According to her account, she was experiencing a urinary tract infection (UTI) at the time and recorded the footage to facilitate communication with a healthcare professional for diagnosis and treatment. Subject: Urgent Request for Intervention on FAYDA ID Registration Barriers Affecting Refugee Studentsโ€™ Access to Education

Dear UNHCR Representatives,

We, concerned students from various Grade 12 schools and universities in Ethiopia, respectfully write to bring to your urgent attention a critical administrative challenge affecting refugee studentsโ€™ access to education.

A number of refugee students currently do not possess FAYDA ID numbers. This has resulted in serious difficulties in their academic registration processes, including delays, separation from standard student records, and restrictions in accessing essential academic services such as examinations and institutional registration.

This issue is affecting both refugee students in secondary education (Grade 12) and those enrolled in higher education institutions. Without timely intervention, it may continue to affect future cohorts of students transitioning into universities.

The key challenges observed include:

โ€ข Inability of some refugee students to complete proper university registration procedures
โ€ข Restrictions or delays in accessing academic services, including examinations
โ€ข Administrative inconsistencies leading to unequal treatment within institutions
โ€ข Risk of continued barriers for Grade 12 students entering higher education

We respectfully emphasize that access to education is a fundamental right and should not be hindered by documentation or identification-related administrative constraints.

In light of the above, we respectfully and urgently request UNHCR to:

โ€ข Engage relevant authorities to address and resolve the FADA ID registration gap affecting students
โ€ข Facilitate an alternative and functional identification mechanism for affected students where applicable
โ€ข Ensure equitable access to registration systems across all educational institutions
โ€ข Support the uninterrupted participation of all affected students in academic examinations and related processes

We believe that immediate attention and coordinated action on this matter will prevent further academic disruption and safeguard the educational rights and future opportunities of affected students.

We respectfully request your urgent review, intervention, and response.

Sincerely,
Concerned Students Advocating for Affected Refugee Students
