Amnesty International has accused Uganda of violating the U.N. arms embargo on South Sudan by deploying troops and armored tanks without U.N. approval. A report claims Ugandan forces crossed into South Sudan on March 17, with footage showing UPDF troops and weaponry entering Juba. Amnesty condemned the move as reckless, calling on the U.N. Security Council to renew and enforce the embargo before it expires on May 31. Uganda’s President Museveni and his son, Gen. Muhoozi, have defended the deployment as support for South Sudan’s government, raising fears of escalating conflict and undermining peace efforts.
