The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) claim to have seized control of the Sudanese Army headquarters in El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.

There has been no immediate response from the Sudanese army. Reports indicate intense fighting erupted on Saturday after RSF fighters allegedly captured the residence of the North Darfur governor.

El-Fasher has been under siege for several months, with the RSF battling the army and its allied forces. The group has been accused of targeting civilians, carrying out airstrikes, and trapping nearly 250,000 residents by surrounding the city with an earth wall, cutting off vital supplies and leaving many on the brink of starvation.

Nhial Deng Nhial Quits SPLM, Launches New Political Movement

Senior SPLM figure Nhial Deng Nhial has officially resigned from South Sudan’s ruling party, citing what he described as “failed leadership” under President Salva Kiir.

According to Radio Tamazuj, Nhial announced the decision in an 18-page statement released on Wednesday morning, accusing the government of corruption, insecurity, and delaying national elections.

In his declaration, the veteran politician unveiled a new outfit — the South Sudan Salvation Movement (SSSM) — which he described as a “temporary vehicle” to reclaim and reform the SPLM from within.

Nhial, who has held several senior government positions since independence, made the announcement while outside the country.

New Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Dr Paul Nang Orders Red Belt Members to Join SSPDF

The new Chief of Defence Forces has issued an order directing members of the Red Belt Movement to join the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) with their personal and support weapons.

The directive also instructs armed youth in Greater Warrap to surrender their weapons within 21 days, warning that failure to comply will result in a comprehensive forceful disarmament operation.

In addition, members of the SPLA-IO have been ordered to report to the nearest SSPDF barracks in preparation for the second phase of transitional security arrangements.

According to the statement, those who fail to comply with the directives will be treated as hostile forces and dealt with accordingly.
