Breaking News: Juba to Nimule Drivers Stranded at Nesitu Checkpoint Over Increased Fees

Drivers operating along the Juba to Nimule route were stopped by traffic police at the Nesitu checkpoint on Tuesday morning while carrying passengers.

One of the drivers at the checkpoint said their vehicles were prevented from proceeding to Nimule unless they paid a fee of 50,000 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP).

According to the driver, the fee was recently increased from 20,000 SSP to 50,000 SSP, a change that has placed a heavy burden on transport operators.

He explained that drivers cannot afford the new charge due to rising fuel costs, noting that most vehicles carry only 14 passengers, with much of the income already going toward fuel expenses.

The driver urged the government to intervene and allow vehicles to continue their journeys, stating that the current fee is unsustainable.

He added that drivers have been stranded at the Nesitu checkpoint since morning, leaving passengers waiting and struggling.

Lual Mayen won Dachuek Youth Association 2026-2028 election

Lual Mayen Arok, the flagbaar of DUYA, has won the Dachuek Youth Association in Juba (YA-J) 2026-2028 election.

Mayen on Sunday won the election with 346 votes bitting the opponent, Matiop John Kuir, the flagbaar of Dachuek Progressive Alliance (DPA).

Lual Mayen Arok as the Chairperson elected for DYA-J 2026-2028

"I declare Lual Mayen Arok as new Chairperson elected for DYA-J 2026-2028 with 346 votes" Mayen declared.

Mayen stated that the candidate, Mayen passed results of the 2026-2028 total registered votes were 808 registered.

Mayen stated that the invalid votes were 23 and un-cased voters were 114.

Lual Mayen Nun, the flag bearer of Dachuek United Youth Alliance (DUYA) emerged the chairperson-elect of the 2026-2028 Dachuek Youth Association Elections-Juba.
Mayen expressed his gratitude to the votes for the grant opportunity and trust given to him by the community.

"Matiop John has quality of good leadership but as chances given to me, he will be granting new opportunity" he expressed.

Mayen highlighted that the wining was dedicated to his mother who fought harder bring him up to get this leadership opportunity.

Mayen holds a bachelor's degree in electronic and telecommunication engineer form the University of Darsalaam, Tanzania.

He also hold the masters of arts in project management from the prestigious University of Juba.

He first contested for the same postion in 2018 when he came back from Tanzania in 2018 as a fresh graduate but he unfortunately lost to his opposent.

Lual waited for 8 years down the line and still vyies for the same postion in this year 2026-2028.

He has track records of leadership positions among which includes Chairperson for the South Sudanese Community in Tanzania from 2014 to 2016.
