JUST IN: South Sudan to Commemorates Prophet Ariath Makueidit in January 2026
Communities across Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and beyond are preparing for a major cultural and spiritual commemoration honoring the late prophet Ariath Makueidit, also known as Bol Yel Angok Ngor. The event is scheduled to take place from Saturday, January 10 to Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with activities planned in three historically significant locations.
According to a public announcement issued by organizers, the commemoration will involve participants from Aweil, Wau, Warrap, Rumbek, other parts of South Sudan, and members of the South Sudanese community around the world.
The first site will be Mabil Apuoth village, where Mayen Akech Kot (Ariath Madhol Piny) is believed to have emerged through the spiritual power of Prophet Ariath Makueidit. The second location is Wunbuol village, under Baac Payam in Aweil East County, where the prophet was laid to rest. The final site will be Malek Yel Ariath, the prophet’s former village, where he reportedly made a historic declaration in Dinka upon his return from Malakal in 1930, following resistance against British colonial administration that began around 1922 in Alok village, now part of Aweil Centre County.
Organizers say the commemoration aims to promote peace, unity, and reconciliation among communities in South Sudan and across the world. The event will also encourage spiritual reflection and moral renewal, while helping to preserve and strengthen cultural identity and historical heritage linked to the life and legacy of Prophet Ariath Makueidit.
Community members, government officials, traditional leaders, elders, youth, church groups, women’s associations, cultural dance groups, and well-wishers have all been invited to take part in the ceremonies.
The announcement was signed by Bol Majak Ariath Makueidit (Bol Yel Angok Ngor), who called on the public to support the event as a moment of remembrance, unity, and cultural pride!!!
