PICTORIAL: Pope Francis descended the plane stairs in a wheelchair and met President Salva Kiir and other officials after landing at Juba International Airport. Some children presented flowers to the Pontiff who then headed to the airport terminal alongside President Kiir.

The Pontiff is accompanied by two eminent religious leaders, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, and the Moderator General of the Church of Scotland Rt.Rev. Dr. Iain Greenshields.

UPDATE: The SSPDF left South Sudan this afternoon for Democratic Republic of Congo to help in peace stability in Congo.

President Salva Kiir graduated over 700 soldiers to serve in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's peacekeeping mission.

They were however warned by President Kiir not to engage themselves in any sexual activity while there.

The Ministry of Labor informs all civil servants, diplomatic missions, UN agencies, national and international Non-governmental Organizations, and the general public that Christmas Holidays shall start from Saturday, December 24th until Tuesday, December 27th.

The New Year's Holidays will also commence on Sunday, January 1st 2023, and end on Monday, January 2nd, 2023.

The U.S. Embassy in Juba has condemned the remarks of Minister of Information, Michael Makuei Lueth regarding the killing of American Journalist Christopher Allen in South Sudan in 2017.

The embassy said Makuei's November 2 statement is "irresponsible" and demands clarification as to whether the remarks - referring to the slain journalist as a white rebel - represent the position of the South Sudan government.

Riek Machar, Pagan Amum kicked out of SPLM

The SPLM’s Political Bureau has kicked out the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar and Pagan Amum from its membership and declared the completion of the party’s reunification process.

The resolutions were passed on Thursday night following the party’s political bureau meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir.

Dr. Machar was the deputy chairperson of the SPLM while Amum was the party Secretary General before the 2013 civil war.

However, following the conflict, Machar formed what is now known as SPLM-IO, while Pagan later formed The Real SPLM.

President Kiir travels to Uganda for Independence Day Celebration

JUBA, 8th October 2022(Office of the President) - His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has on Saturday left Juba for Kampala to attend the commemoration of the 60th anniversary and Diamond Jubilee of Uganda’s independence which will take place on Sunday.

In her remarks to the media upon departure at Juba International Airport, The Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Lily Adhieu Martin Manyiel said, “ South Sudan and Uganda enjoys longstanding historical ties dating back to the days of liberation struggle against colonial rule. The two sisterly Countries have special multiple bilateral cooperation agreements in areas ranging from trade, investment and security along our borders.”

She added that, “ we are aware that our people are concerned about the President’s trip despite the Ebola outbreak in some parts of Uganda, but I assure you that precautions have been put in place both in South Sudan and Uganda to ensure the safety of our President and his accompanying delegation.”

President Kiir arrived in Uganda and he is expected to hold bilateral talks with his Counterpart President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to discuss issues of mutual interests between the two sisterly Countries.

South Sudan Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol Agany has met United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly underway in New York.

The Secretary-General and the Vice President discussed the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS). The Secretary-General assured the Vice President of the full support of the United Nations to all efforts to bring peace and stability to South Sudan.

Passport period to be extended for 10 years.

Lt. General Atem Marol Biar, the department’s director said he has submitted a request to the relevant institutions to deliberate on and decide whether to implement or block the idea.

“For the issue of extending the passport for ten years, we have submitted our request to the government,” said Marol while speaking on the International Day of Identity.

General Marol said it costs the government 19 US dollars to print a single passport booklet, which is in turn issued to the public at only 6 dollars.

According to him, the government is losing 13 dollars for every printed passport and therefore they have weighed on increasing the validity period of passports.

“We used to buy the passport by 19 dollars and sell it out by 6 dollars that is a great loss,” he said to reporters.

Members of the public have often criticized the department’s delayed issuance of passports and national identity cards, with its German technology provider known for threatening to shut down the system over failure to pay bills.

In 2017, the Department of Passports and Immigration said it had stopped giving out passports due to technical problems.

Former Deputy Finance Minister Ambrose Thiik Thiik said at the time, that the passport and national identification server had been blocked by its host, Germany’s Muhlbauer after the government failed to pay an annual software license fee of around $500,000.

Last month, City Review newspaper wrote an intriguing article titled ‘Passports Headache: Why you need to be sick to get a passport in S. Sudan.’

The article captured the scramble of travellers, students and sick people who have to wait against time or miss their flights even after spending thousands in bribing middlemen at the immigration.

However, General Marol said a few weeks ago, that the government has acquired enough national ID cards and passport booklets to last for the next two years.

The immigration official also said the department must cease issuing diplomatic.

Pope Francis to finally visit South Sudan in February 2023

After several delays and postponements, the Vatican has finally confirmed that Pope France will visit South Sudan next year in February.

This was revealed by the Apostolic Nuncio (Ambassador) to South Sudan Msgr. Lonut Paul yesterday while handing over a gift from the Holy See in a form of book and a letter to First Vice President Riek Machar.

"His Holiness Pope Francis made the decision during a meeting of the Religious leaders on September 13,” Msgr. Lonut Paul said without specifying the date.

On his part, the FVP briefed the Apostolic Nuncio on the roadmap to the agreement which the parties signed recently paving way for the extension of the Transitional Period.

QueenElizabeth II's coffin left Buckingham Palace for the last time in a horse-drawn gun carriage in a procession to historic Westminster Hall led by her son, King Charles III.

The late monarch will lie in state for four days at the Houses of Parliament before her funeral on Monday.

Meanwhile, thousands of mourners gathered on The Mall outside the palace to accompany the coffin on its journey from the Queen's London residence.

His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has returned to Juba from Nairobi, where he witnessed the inauguration ceremony of H.E William Samoei Ruto, the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya.

Before his departure to Juba, President Kiir held a meeting with Kenya’s President Ruto at the State House in Nairobi on bilateral agreements in the areas of cooperation between the two Countries.

During their discussions, President Kiir highlighted the importance of Kenya's relations and their stand towards the implementation of South Sudan Revitalised Peace Agreement.

His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday left Juba for Nairobi to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new elected Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto.

In an invitation extended to President Kiir from President-elect William Samoei Ruto, President William Ruto stated that Kenya and South Sudan share a long-standing relations underpinned by strong economic cooperation, bonds of heritage and shared destiny.

The visit will also create opportunity to assess and strengthen the already existing cordial ties on key strategic cooperation between the two Countries.
