At least two people were killed and seven others seriously injured following a violent land-related incident in Maper Boma, Aweng Payam of Twic County, local authorities have confirmed.

Community leaders said the clash erupted over a land dispute, leaving a man and a woman dead at the scene. The victims were identified as Abuk Thuc Akuar, the wife of Akot Deng Chol, and Ustaz Aguer Aguek Atem.

Those who sustained injuries in the incident include Sub-Chief Kuol Majook Tong, elder Makuac Tong Aguek, Dr. Aguer Atem Thuc Atem, Majook Majok Aguek, Madut Deng, Nga Mayot Nga, and Deng Anei Manyang. Some of the injured were reported to be in serious condition.

Speaking to the media, Chief Mayom Mayuot Majok urged the two clans involved to remain calm and allow the county government to handle the matter.
“We are calling on the two clans to stay calm and leave this incident in the hands of the county authorities,” he said.

In a separate statement, Chief Mouter Ring Yout strongly condemned the violence and appealed to the residents of Maper, particularly the families of the deceased, to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.

Local authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing as efforts continue to restore calm in the area.

Opinion | Abyei Administration’s Road Projects Risk Reigniting Conflict South of the Kiir River

The Abyei Administration has once again resumed what it describes as “developmental activities” in the highly contested areas south of the Kiir River, under the pretext of road rehabilitation. These actions mirror the same patterns and justifications that led to the violent clashes of April 2022 in the Agook and Athony areas—territories that fall within Turalei, Wunrok, and Ajak Kuac payams of Twic County, Warrap State.

Following those clashes, the Government of the Republic of South Sudan issued a presidential order deploying the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) to establish a buffer zone north of the affected areas in order to de-escalate tensions and prevent further violence. In compliance with that directive, the Twic Armed Youth withdrew from Anet, Athony, Agook, and other areas south of the Kiir River, handing full responsibility to the SSPDF to maintain security and enforce the buffer zone.

However, the recent actions of the Abyei Administration represent a clear violation of that presidential order. Reports indicate that authorities have begun clearing land, demarcating territory, and rehabilitating roads within the buffer zone—activities that have resulted in the displacement of local residents. These developments are taking place under the watch of the SSPDF, whose explicit mandate is to ensure that the buffer zone is respected and that provocative actions are prevented.

The affected communities now find themselves with very limited options, as the actions of the Ngok authorities continue unchecked, heightening tensions and risking a return to violence in an already fragile area.

We therefore urge the Government of Warrap State and the Government of the Republic of South Sudan to act with urgency. Hon. Charles Abyei and the Abyei Administration must be instructed to immediately cease these provocative activities and fully respect the presidential order establishing the buffer zone, in the interest of peace, stability, and the protection of civilian lives.

The Ajak Kuac community in the Arab Republic of Egypt has announced plans to organize a major fundraising party aimed at raising funds for the renovation of Ajak Kuac Hospital.

The event is scheduled to take place on December 31, 2025, at Lialina Hall, starting at 6:00 PM. Community leaders say the initiative is part of ongoing efforts by Ajak Kuac citizens in the diaspora to support healthcare services back home.

The fundraising party will be held under the patronage of James Makieu Yuot, who will serve as the Patron of the Day. Mrs. Athieng Mawien is expected to attend as the Chief Guest, while Deng Yel will be the Guest of Honor. The event is being coordinated under the leadership of Mabior Mabek, the Chairperson of the Ajak Kuac Community in Egypt.

Entertainment will be a key feature of the evening, with renowned artist William Sudan (popularly known as Mony Achan) appearing as the Special Guest Artist. He will be joined by a lineup of performing artists, including James Abej Majok, Bith Pan Teeng, Gabriel Chan Akuei, Madhieu Dut, Arop Chop (Muor Agok), Atem Nyagor Akuol, Atem Palek Atem, Akot Chok, Santino KB, Akech Bol (Akech Majooj), Akoon Giir Angok (Landit), Madup Manyiel, and Muoter Ajak.

The event will be hosted by masters of ceremony Kur Adhueng and John Madhieu, with music provided by DJ M Show.

Organizers have called on members of the community and well-wishers to attend and contribute generously, noting that the renovation of Ajak Kuac Hospital is critical to improving healthcare delivery and saving lives in the area.

SSPDF orders civilian evacuation in parts of Jonglei

The South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) has ordered civilians to immediately leave SPLA-IO–controlled areas in Jonglei State, particularly zones near military barracks and assembly points.

The directive affects Lou-Nuer counties of Nyirol, Uror, and Akobo, and is intended to protect civilians and reduce the risk of collateral damage during ongoing and planned military operations.

The order was announced today by SSPDF spokesperson Major General L*l Ruai Koang from the General Headquarters in Bilpam.

Nairobi — South Sudanese public figure Mariak Bol Majok has issued a clarification regarding an incident involving Thomas Thon Makorou and Tearz Ayuen, following public statements made by Thon that mentioned his name.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Mariak said it was necessary to clarify what he personally witnessed after receiving numerous inquiries since the matter surfaced.

According to Mariak, Tearz Ayuen did in fact meet Thomas Thon, contradicting claims made earlier by Thon. However, he noted that it remains unclear whether Tearz knew Thon’s identity at the time of their interaction.

Mariak explained that the encounter occurred in August at a popular hangout spot in Nairobi frequented by South Sudanese nationals. he said he was present with Tearz Ayuen, G*i Mayen, and some of Tearz’s relatives when Thomas Thon approached their table after recognizing him. he introduced Thon to Tearz and G*i, after which Thon appeared pleased to meet Tearz.

he added that Thon and Tearz later engaged in a friendly private conversation. However, tensions briefly arose when Thon accused one of Tearz’s relatives of filming him with a phone. The accusation was denied, and those present intervened to calm the situation, assuring Thon that no recording was taking place.

Mariak further stated that Thon later returned to their table accompanied by several individuals, including one who appeared visibly intoxicated and aggressive. The accusation of filming was raised again, but Mariak reiterated that no filming had occurred. Shortly afterward, he and his group decided to leave the venue.

“What happened to Thomas Thon after we left is unknown to me,” Mariak said, adding that based on what he witnessed, he does not believe Tearz Ayuen assaulted or set up Thon.

he also dismissed claims and online discussions surrounding the type or cost of alcohol consumed during the incident, saying such details are irrelevant and should not be used to demean or mock anyone.

In his concluding remarks, Mariak called on both parties to resolve the matter peacefully and privately, urging that communities should not be dragged into a personal dispute.

“I strongly believe that my brothers, Tearz and Thon, should settle this issue amicably so that everyone can move forward and continue living together in peace,” he said.
