President Kiir Swears in Amb. Bol Wek Agoth as Caretaker Governor of Warrap State

Juba, September 25, 2026 — President Salva Kiir has sworn in H.E. Amb. Bol Wek Agoth as Caretaker Governor of Warrap State. The appointment is part of the Government of South Sudan’s broader preparations for the upcoming December elections.

Also sworn in were Louis Lobong Lojore (Eastern Equatoria State), Charles Dut Akol (Northern Bahr el Ghazal State), Dr. Joseph Nguen Monytuiel (Unity State), James Koang Chuol (Upper Nile State), and Charles Abyei Jok (Chief Administrator of the Abyei Special Administrative Area).

President Kiir tasked Amb. Bol Wek Agoth and his colleagues with executing the mandate of the caretaker administrations in accordance with the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan and the laws governing the election period.

President Kiir further pledged the Government’s support and the necessary resources to facilitate the successful conduct of the elections, emphasizing that the people of South Sudan must be given the opportunity to choose their leaders freely through a democratic process.

The swearing-in marks a significant milestone for H.E. Amb. Bol Wek Agoth, signaling the beginning of a critical tenure leading Warrap State through the interim period.

CLARIFICATION: LIST OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE DECLARED INTEREST FOR WARRAP STATE GOVERNORSHIP

Kuajok, 25th September 2026

Following public speculation, we wish to clarify the list of individuals who have personally declared and aspired themselves to contest for the position of Governor of Warrap State in the upcoming General Elections scheduled for 22nd December 2026.

PLEASE NOTE: These are self-declared aspirants and NOT official candidates approved by the National Elections Commission (NEC) or by political parties. The official nomination and vetting process by NEC is yet to begin.

The individuals who have so far publicly expressed interest are:

1. Victor Atem Atem - Gogrial East County
2. Benjamin Bang Bang - Tonj North County
3. Augustino Maduot Parek - Tonj North County
4. Ariech Mayar Ariech - Gogrial West County
5. W***y Angok Ngor - Twic County
6. Majok Ayar Chieny - Twic County
7. Santino Atuot Mathiang - Tonj North County
8. Diing Adim Adim Yak - Gogrial West County
9. Mathiek Ring Ayok - Gogrial West County
10. Mathew Mathiang Magoordit - Tonj East County
11. Yol Mayar Mareng - Tonj North County

The public is urged to treat this as a preliminary list of aspirants as we await the official list of candidates from NEC.

More aspirants are expected to declare in the coming days.

“For the governorship of Warrap state, I am contesting. I will bring effective leadership to Warrap state. My administration will focus on bringing practical solutions to fundamental problems of Warrap state: insecurity, hunger, lack of internal roads, and public infrastructures, including Kuajok University.

My administration will empower women through political appointments and financial assistances.

My administration will promote youth empowerment through political appointments and financial assistances. I am not an insecure, selfish leader who threatened by the potentialities of young leaders. In fact, I feel honored to have brought up the youth with potentials who would remain relevant, featuring in national politics many years after I will have joined my ancestors.

My administration will stimulate state economy with 3 tiered stimulation programs. I won’t dive into details for fear that my plans would be plagiarized by my opponents.

I believe in social and economic freedoms. So my administration will lift all unnecessary restrictions imposed on the people of Warrap state. I will lead Warrap within the framework of South Sudan’s laws.

With my pro- economic policies, Warrap state will overtake its neighbors in terms of economic performance. And in 2 years, Kuajok, the capital of Warrap state, will overtake both Aweil, Wau and Rumbek in development.

I am tolerant. I don’t fear different opinions. And I don’t hold grudges over different opinions.

And finally, I don’t belong to any group. I belong to the people of Warrap state. Be ready, and let us face them, come 22 December, 2026.”

Former Warrap Deputy Governor Aluel Garang Garang thanks President Kiir for three years of service

Former Warrap State Deputy Governor Hon. Aluel Garang Garang, popularly known as “Aluel Messi,” has expressed gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for giving her the opportunity to serve as Deputy Governor of Warrap State from 28 March 2023 to 22 September 2026.

Following the dissolution of the state governments on Tuesday, Hon. Aluel thanked President Kiir for entrusting her with the responsibility to serve the people of Warrap State for more than three years.

During her tenure, she worked under six different governors: Brig. Gen. Manhiem Bol Malek (2023), Col. Kuol Muor Muor (2023-2024), Gen. Akol Koor Kuc (2024), Gen. Francis Marial Abur (2024-2025), Gen. Magok Magok Deng (2024-2025), and Amb. Bol Wek Agoth (2025-2026).

Hon. Aluel expressed appreciation to President Kiir for the opportunity to serve under successive state administrations and contribute to the affairs of Warrap State.

Her tenure ended following the dissolution of the state governments on 22 September 2026, ahead of the December 2026 General Elections.

Hon. Aluel Garang Garang served as Deputy Governor throughout a period that saw six different governors lead Warrap State.

BREAKING: NEC UNVEILS VOTER REGISTRATION MATERIALS AS DECEMBER POLL PREPARATIONS INTENSIFY

The National Elections Commission (NEC) has officially unveiled the Voter Registration Book and Registration Forms, marking a major step forward in preparations for South Sudan's much-anticipated General Elections scheduled for 22nd December 2026.

The unveiling comes as the Commission finalizes logistical arrangements for the nationwide voter registration exercise.

The NEC has however clarified that voter registration has NOT officially started. The Commission stated that the official start dates and designated registration centres across the country will be announced through a formal public notice.

The development has sparked fresh optimism and debate among citizens: Is the December election finally becoming a reality?

The country now awaits the official timetable from NEC.
