Mourners Gather at Residence of Late Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit
Family members, relatives, friends, colleagues, community leaders, and mourners have gathered at the residence of the late Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit in Juba to pay their respects and offer condolences to the bereaved family.
Late Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit was a distinguished South Sudanese economist, veteran public servant, senior government technocrat, former Minister of Finance and Planning, and Chairperson of Kuac Ayok Community Worldwide.
He dedicated decades of his life to public service, economic management, financial administration and community leadership.
Hon. Salvatore studied Economics at the University of Liberia from 1970 to 1973 before pursuing postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Development Finance from the University of Birmingham in 1981–1982.
He began his public-service career in financial administration in the former Southern Sudan. Between 1983 and 1991, he served as Director of International Audit and Inspection with the Council of Ministers in Wau.
He later served as Director General of Finance in the former Warrap administration and held other senior responsibilities in financial management and public administration.
His professional career also extended to humanitarian and international service. He served as an Assistant Administrator with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Switzerland at Marial Lou Hospital in Tonj and later worked as an Administrator with the Sudan Integrated Mine Action Service (SIMAS) in Nairobi, Kenya.
In 2008, Hon. Salvatore returned to senior government service as First Undersecretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, where he contributed to economic planning and public financial management during a critical period in South Sudan's institutional development.
In March 2018, he was appointed Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, becoming one of the country's leading figures in economic management.
He later returned to the Finance Ministry in February 2026 as Minister of Finance and Planning, serving during a period of significant economic challenges.
Beyond his national public service, Hon. Salvatore served as Chairperson of Kuac Ayok Community Worldwide, providing leadership and representation to the wider community.
Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 6:03 p.m. at AMI Clinic in Juba, according to his family.
His death has brought together mourners from across the country and beyond, as family, friends, colleagues and members of the Kuac Ayok community gather to honour the life and legacy of a man remembered for decades of public service and community leadership.
